I am through with M&T after 25 years and am in the process of switching banks. In the last 2-3 years I have endured mistake after unbelieveable mistake, gross incompetence, and egregious errors that have resulted in tremendous stress and disruption in my life. Their tellers are apparently VERY poorly trained, frequently confused, and often act like they have no clue what they are doing. On no less than TWO occasions, the last very recently, I made a significant deposit into a checking account only to discover days later, to my horror, that the money had been placed into SOMEONE ELSE'S ACCOUNT!! To make matters even worse, they reassigned my PIN NUMBER to THIS OTHER PERSON'S ACCOUNT in the most recent instance. This resulted in a mountain of fees and penalties being leveled against me through no fault of my own, due to THEIR INEXCUSABLE ERRORS. Their phone system associates are rude and confrontational in the extreme, with a totally disdainful and adversarial attitude, certainly the WORST and most unhelpful I have ever dealt with from ANY institution. Fees have become absolutely outrageous and I have actually been told by them FLAT OUT that they reserve the right to hold a deposited check for up to TWO WEEKS, no doubt to maximize the possibility of milking overdraft fees any chance they get. They have absolutely no regard or respect for the ordinary customer but will kiss your behind til the cows come home if you have hundreds of thousands of dollars in multiple accounts. If you are an honest customer who plays by the rules and actually works for a living, then go climb a tree, and they will charge you a fee for that too. M&T has become an absurdly huge and ridiculously arrogant monstrosity, and they need a big fat humble pie smashed into their collective smug faces. I have yet to receive anything even remotely resembling an apology, from anyone, for their continuous unconscionable blunders and I am still trying to sort out the abysmal mess they caused for me three weeks after the fact. They are completely unethical and totally unworthy of my business. Go climb a tree yourself, M&T. I can tell you FLAT OUT where you can stick that green flag.
