The Omaha Public Power District, also known as OPPD, is one of the largest, publicly owned electric utilities in the United States that serves more than 340,000 customers in over 10 southeastern Nebraska counties. Founded in 1946, it is a political subdivision of the state of Nebraska. The district offers a range of electricity services for residential and business customers. The Omaha Public Power District complies with the standards of North American Electric Reliability Corporation. In addition, it owns and operates Fort Calhoun Nuclear Generating Station. The district provides items for bids and auctions. The Omaha Public Power District operates base-load plants that generate electricity.
