- Internal MedicineOf acupuncture's effectiveness, internal medicine expert Tesia Winter, DO says, "Small studies show some benefit to acupuncture, but it's hard to know if it's a placebo effect or not." The placebo effect is when people experience a benefit from a fake treatment, which happens often. It's difficult to have a convincing fake treatment to study the placebo effect with acupuncture – you'd know whether a needle is going into your back or not. This means it's difficult to have a proper scientific study to see acupuncture's actual effects.

- EndoscopyNebraska Medicine ear, nose and throat specialists use state-of-the-art, noninvasive methods to assess the cause of your symptoms. They use nasal endoscopy to evaluate the nose and sinuses. During a nasal endoscopy, a thin, nonflexible, lighted endoscope with a camera is inserted gently into the nasal cavity to look for infection, masses, polyps and areas of narrowing such as a deviated septum or large turbinate. Our ENTs may use a thin, flexible high-definition camera called a laryngoscope to assess your throat and vocal cords. The laryngoscope is used to look for nodules, masses, infections and other causes of your symptoms.

- MRIClearer imaging: Doctors can evaluate the area of the tumor more easily with carbon fiber implants because they create fewer artifacts on an MRI scan than titanium. These artifacts, or shadows, make it harder to see the area where the tumor was taken from. These shadows can delay detection of regrowing tumors. With carbon fiber implants, doctors can see the area better during a scan, so they can catch tumor recurrences earlier.

- X-Rays
- Mammography
- Computed Tomography
- Radiation TherapyImproved radiation accuracy: If a tumor can’t be completely removed during surgery, the surgeon can place carbon fiber screws around the remaining tumor. When radiation therapy is given after the surgery, the beams can reach the tumor more accurately because of these implants. Carbon fiber also causes less deflection of the radiation beam than titanium.
- Minimally Invasive SurgeryWhen surgery is needed, our skilled surgeons will use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. Minimally invasive surgery requires very small incisions often allowing you to go home the same day or after a 24-hour observation period. Using specialized techniques such as miniature cameras with microscopes, tiny fiber optic lights and high definition monitors, surgeons can make repairs without requiring you to undergo major surgery. Benefits include less pain, small incisions, less preoperative time, quicker return to normal activity, fewer complications and reduced risk of wound separation.
