Arlington Asset Investment Corp. is a principal investment firm that invests primarily in mortgage-related assets. The company invests on a leveraged basis in residential mortgage-backed securities (MBS), including collateralized mortgage obligations (CMOs), either issued by a U.S. Government agency, or guaranteed as to principal and interest by U.S. Government agencies or U.S. Government-sponsored entities. It also invests in both AAA-rated MBS issued by private organizations (private-label MBS) and net interest margin securities and they hold merchant banking investments.
