- Pediatric CareAges at our LEAWOOD location. She specializes in pediatric care, including the treatment and management of strabismus and amblyopia. Dr. McGowan also treats eye infections and trauma, and prescribes contact lenses or glasses.
- Primary CareDr. Lori Berwald is a 1995 graduate of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. She enjoys practicing in OLATHE where she emphasizes primary care as well as the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease, contact lens care, and pre- and post-operative care of cataract and refractive surgery patients.
- GlaucomaPatients with glaucoma experience damage to their optic nerves, which interferes with their eye’s ability to process light. If you have glaucoma, we can help slow its progression and preserve your vision with medicated eye drops and laser treatments that decrease pressure inside the eye.
- OphthalmologyWhile many people think choosing a pair of glasses or contacts is an aesthetic choice, it is also important to monitor your ocular health. One of the benefits of having our Physicians Optical Shop on-site at our ophthalmology office is that our opticians can help you maintain your eye health. When you come in to pick out a pair of glasses or retrieve your latest contact lenses, we can complete thorough ocular testing, checking for vision issues or diseases. You can also stop in at our shop during your annual eye exam or after a consultation with one of our doctors.
- Macular DegenerationThe macula is the central region of your retina, which processes light so you can see. Macular degeneration is an age-related condition that causes sufferers to lose their sharpest, most central vision. We can provide treatment for both dry and wet macular degeneration to preserve your vision.
- Laser Eye SurgeryWearing glasses or contacts can feel like a hassle, but it can be impossible to go about your daily life without them if your vision is impaired. LASIK eye surgery can restore your vision, making your life easier and improving your confidence. LASIK, a type of refractive surgery which reshapes the cornea, can correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. At Grin Eye Care, we perform completely bladeless LASIK using advanced laser technology. We offer free LASIK evaluations at our Olathe and Leawood offices to patients who are interested in pursuing this treatment option. Contact us today to learn more about LASIK and to schedule a consultation with one of our doctors.
- CataractsA cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. It can be compared to a window that is frosted or yellowed. The amount and pattern of cloudiness within the lens can vary. If the cloudiness is not near the center of the lens, you may not even be aware that a cataract is present.
- Cataract SurgeryOften the result of aging, cataracts result from protein buildup in your eye’s lens, which cause your vision to become blurry. To treat this condition, we perform cataract surgery to replace the damaged lens with an intraocular lens and treat other existing vision issues.
- Eye ExamIf you believe you may have cataracts, one of our ophthalmologists or optometrists can perform an eye exam to properly diagnose your condition.
- Diabetes Care
- Diabetic RetinopathyAnyone with diabetes is at risk for developing diabetic retinopathy, which causes damage to your retinal blood vessels. The disease can cause substantial vision loss or even blindness. With early detection, we can preserve your vision using eye drops, laser procedures, or intravitreal injections.
- UltrasoundOur doctors perform cataract surgery at Olathe Medical Center, as well as other outstanding facilities, which all offer an excellent nursing staff that delivers personalized care. On the day of your surgery, we will administer numbing eye drops and intravenous (IV) sedation so that you remain comfortable. Next, your surgeon will make a small incision on the surface of your cornea and insert a tiny instrument into your eye. This tool uses ultrasound waves to break the cloudy lens into fragments and gently suction it out of the eye. For patients with astigmatism who are not candidates for a toric IOL, the surgeon may also make limbal relaxing incisions. Once your doctor has placed your lens, the incision will be closed. The entire procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
