Social Security Administration, headed by a Commissioner, is part of the United States Federal Government. It has a nationwide network of over 1,400 offices and has a presence in the U.S. embassies around the world. Based in Oak Ridge, Tenn., its field organization includes 10 regional offices, 6 processing centers and approximately 1,260 field offices.
