I work mainly with individual adults, but also with couples and groups, clients who experience a wide range of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, the effects of trauma, and relationship issues. My specialty is helping people navigate difficult life transitions and find ways to thrive amidst the challenges of change. I have focused particularly on empowering women with abuse histories and supporting individuals exploring or coming to terms with their sexual orientation. As appropriate, I draw upon the principles and practice of a specialized form of body-centered therapy called Wave Work. My approach is flexible and holistic. It involves setting goals with the client, assessing the client's strengths and resources, engaging all aspects of the client's experience; physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, and helping the client draw upon inner wisdom and natural healing power to achieve the goals of therapy. My clinical work is based on training (MSW) and fifteen years experience in community mental health. It is informed by training (MDiv) and experience in pastoral ministry and grief counseling and by seventeen years work in Federal advocacy programs to empower poor people, women, and diverse racial and ethnic groups.
