Appalachian Springs serves Charleston, SC as a chief provider of bottled water, coffee services, and water filtration coolers. The Start: Upon (Murray) returning from the Gulf War in 1992, Low-country natives, Cindy and Murray Compton, took the seats out of their minivan and started delivering bottled Spring Water. Friends and family loved it and were soon “hooked” on the great taste of AppSprings Water. They told their friends…and a business was born! Overnight Success: Good water and personalized service proved a winning combination. The company has recorded 20+ years of consecutive increases. Line Extension: Additions like the marvelous marketing tool of private label spring water and filtration divisions were added. Expansions: Since the best water makes the best coffee, AppSprings acquired an established office coffee service company. The Future: John Murray Compton III serves as VP and COO, but Cindy and Murray remain as active as ever.
