First, it's not a secret that this is not a luxury nursing home. Also, my relative has been in there for more than 10 years. Do things go wrong? Yes! Does my mother have to stay on the staff? absolutely! But one doesn't dump their relative in any facility without realizing that that person is still you FULL responsibility. People need to accept that we have to keep an eye on our loved ones and YES still advocate for the best care. The caregivers at Sentara there get paid very little, get few benefits and have to clean and do things we can't imagine. (and yes call out the careless ones.) But instead of criticizing ALL, support them, coach them and act like you have compassion for them. You'd be suprised how better your loved one is treated. Do the work it takes to make sure your loved one is cared for. It's all we have. If we we tear them down, where will our loved ones go!? Thank you Sentara!
I am the parent of a patient in your facility. You do not treat patients and family with the creed of the mission that you have so bold plastered throughout your facility. You do not keep them informed effectively. You attempt to make decisions involving them and their love one as if they have no understanding of love and compassion. You work your employees during the week on 1st shift usually more than enough workers M-F. However on 2nd and 3rd shift weekly and on week-ends as well as holidays you are always shorthanded and the patients and their families suffer. You sometimes respond to patients and their family members as tho their health decisions are yours to decide, even with strong family input. Your indiscretion discussing patients business and matters in the hallways is unacceptable and very disheartening. A more caring and professional atmosphere is extremely necessary. Actually use your mission statement Treat people with diginity/respect/compassion. PT/OTalso.
