The Transportation Division is responsible for the maintenance and operation of more than 280 traffic signals and over 700 miles of traffic lane lines throughout the City of Norfolk in Virginia. It also maintains pavement marking legends, traffic information and street signs. The division is also engaged in the repair and replacement of more than 45,000 traffic signs and over 28,000 street lights. In addition, the Transportation Division plans state highway projects. It focuses on providing safe transportation system for pedestrians and motorists. The division is a part of the public works department of the City of Norfolk government, which also operates animal control, budget, cultural affairs, economic development, finance and business services, police, public health and purchasing departments. The Transportation Division is located in Norfolk, Va.
