• Dental Examination
  In order to diagnose periodontal disease, a comprehensive examination must be performed. This is done by placing a periodontal probe within the space between the sulcus (pocket or space) and the surface of each tooth. The depth of a healthy sulcus measures three millimeters or less and does not bleed. The periodontal probe helps indicate if pockets are deeper than three millimeters. As periodontal disease progresses, the pockets usually get deeper. Your Comfort Dental Lounge dentist will use pocket depths, amount of bleeding, inflammation, tooth mobility, etc., to make a diagnosis.
• X-rays
  Your dentist will thoroughly examine the affected area in order to assess the general condition of the teeth and gums. The dentist will also recommend panoramic x-rays in order to assess the precise depth and width of the existing bone. On occasion, a CAT scan may be recommended to determine the bone condition. Depending on these results, the dentist may also anesthetize the area and explore into the gum in order to determine what kind and how much bone is required.
• Oral Cancer Screening
  Oral cancer screening: Check the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer.

  Although studies indicate that there are no measurable health risks to patients who have silver fillings, we do know that mercury is a toxic material when we are exposed at high, unsafe levels. For instance, we have been warned to limit the consumption of certain types of fish that carry high levels of mercury in them. However, with respect to amalgam fillings, the ADA maintains that when the mercury combines with the other components of the filling, it becomes an inactive substance that is safe.

  After tooth extraction, it’s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. After the tooth is extracted you may feel some pain and experience some swelling. An ice pack applied to the area will keep swelling to a minimum. Take pain medications as prescribed. The swelling usually subsides after 48 hours.

  When considering dental implants or bridge work, it is likely your dentist will discuss bone grafting. Bone grafting can repair implant sites with inadequate bone structure due to previous extractions, gum disease or injuries.

Our interceptive approach enables us to nip teeth alignment issues before they escalate, gently expanding and reshaping a young person's smile. When all the permanent teeth emerge during adolescence, some children may need a second treatment phase, which can include comprehensive orthodontics and an appliance, like a retainer, to maintain teeth position.

  During your first appointment, the alignment of your teeth and bite will be carefully evaluated to determine how to best move forward with treatment. Then an impression is taken of your teeth to examine any problem areas. The dentist then maps out your Invisalign® treatment, including how many aligners will be needed, how long each one must be worn, and the length of overall treatment.
