He is a graduate of Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut where he was a Chemistry major. He went on to study medicine in the United Kingdom at The Queens University of Belfast School of Medicine in Belfast Northern Ireland. Working in Belfast, under the British National Health Service, Dr McKay gained extensive training in all fields of Ophthalmology, especially anterior segment surgery which included cornea and refractive surgery, cataract, glaucoma, oculoplastic, and muscle surgery. To become American Board certified in Ophthalmology it was required that Dr McKay repeat three years of Ophthalmology residency in a United States training program.
