Norris Electric Cooperative is a rural electric distribution provider in for the largest part of Clark, Crawford, Cumberland, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland and Wabash counties in Illinois. Organized in September 1938, it has grown into a cooperative with more than 4,000 miles of land and 30-plus substations. Its original membership of approximately 550 people now exceeds 18,750 members. Headquarterd in Newton, Ill., Norris Electric is maintained by the local citizens, who control it by exercising democratic rights as member-owners of the cooperative. Services offered by Norris Electric Cooperative include electric, WildBlue Satellite Speed Internet, business and residential long-distance service through Power Net Global Communications and discounts on Air Evac Lifeteam services.
