Rafael Hernandez School, located in Newark, N.J., serves students in prekindergarten through grade eight. The school has an enrollment of more than 700 students every year. It is a part of Newark Public Schools and offers classes in English, mathematics, science, social studies, foreign languages, and computer and physical education. It also offers several bilingual and self-contained special education classes, as well as research-based literacy programs and reading and writing workshops. The school conducts several developmental programs, including My Access-Online Writing, 25 Books Campaign, novel initiative, test sophistication, principal book of the month, everyday math and connected math and FOSS science modules programs. Rafael Hernandez School also organizes an after-school youth development program that provides extended learning opportunities and enrichment activities for students.
