Director Sammi Cannold’s bold new vision shows how the events of the Argentinian first lady’s humble teenage years haunted and propelled her controversial rise to power by casting a Young Eva who grows into the iconic Evita. NEW YORK CITY CENTER has played a defining role in the cultural life of the city since 1943 when it was founded by Mayor LaGuardia with the mission to make the best in the performing arts accessible to all. The Encores! series has given new life to the musical theater canon, complemented by the Encores! Off-Center series. Dance remains an integral part of City Center’s mission through programs like the Fall for Dance Festival, which offers subsidized tickets for the price of a movie ticket.
