General Info
Marianne Boesky Gallery was founded in 1996 in SoHo, New York City. Since its inception the Gallery's mission has been to represent and support the work of emerging international artists of all media. The Gallery's first generation of artists, such as Sarah Sze, Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara, has gone on to enjoy significant international acclaim, as has the Gallery's second group of artists brought on between 1999-2001, such as Rachel Feinstein, Barnaby Furnas, Liz Craft and Donald Moffett. After 2001 the Gallery added several artists with strong existing careers to the program including Sue de Beer, John Waters and Alexander Ross. In concert with the Gallery's move in 2005 to its new ground floor home designed by Deborah Berke and Partners on West 24th Street in Chelsea, the Gallery again focused on its original and ongoing mission by adding recent art school graduates to its roster of artists such as Jay Heikes, Adam Helms, Anthony Pearson, Diana Al-Hadid and William J. O'Brien, among others. The gallery continues to expand its program internationally, recently taking on Kaye Donachie, Hans Op de Beeck and Robert Elfgen. Additionally, in an ongoing effort to infuse historic context into the program, the gallery is now representing the estate of Salvatore Scarpitta. And, in early 2010, the gallery opened a second location in an old-world townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, dedicated to mounting exhibitions that provide historic context for the younger and mid-career artists in the gallery program.
