AED works in various areas of human development, with a focus on improving education, health and economic opportunities for the underprivileged in the United States and other developing countries. The organization runs more than 4,000 programs, has over 1,200 employees and operates in more than 165 countries. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has an office in New York City.
