The company, formed in 1991 as a subsidiary of Great American Insurance Company, provides the underwriting and administrative services of Great American s credit insurance programs. Policies are issued in the name of either Foreign Credit Insurance Association or Great American Insurance Company. It is a member of the International Union of Credit and Investment Insurers (Berne Union), a worldwide association of government and private insurance institutions organized to facilitate information exchange, promote sound underwriting principles and assist in enforcement of foreign buyers' payment obligations.
