General Info
I had always had an interest in surgery, but I was drawn specifically to urology because of the diverse array of surgical procedures and treatment options I could use to help people.I serve as the chief of the urology service at Tisch Hospital. My team and I offer the latest surgical and medical treatments to people with kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and other cancerous urologic conditions. I am an expert in performing complicated procedures, such as radical cystectomy and urinary reconstruction for the removal of large bladder tumors, partial nephrectomy for the removal of cancerous tissue from the kidneys, and radical prostatectomy for the removal of prostate cancers.I’ve been performing these procedures for nearly a decade. I use traditional methods as well as the latest in advanced, minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques at the Robotic Surgery Center, where I serve as co-director. My goal is always to provide the best possible outcome. My expertise has led to recognition in New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” and has allowed me to serve on national and international committees to establish care guidelines for the management of cancers of the urinary tract. We take a truly collaborative approach to care. I often treat patients side by side with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other cancer specialists. I also think of my patients as a part of the care team, valuing their input and encouraging them to be very involved in treatment. Although I inform and guide people through the decision making process, I respect that treatment decisions are ultimately made by the patient. My research focuses on maximizing the quality of life for people who have had surgical treatment for kidney cancer. I am also interested in new treatments for people with bladder cancer, in the hope that we can successfully cure them without having to remove the bladder.
