Dr. Nhan-Chang, is a member of the team of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) clinicians who provide invasive and non-invasive procedures for fetal diagnosis and therapy. She performs detailed 3-D/4-D ultrasound, fetal echocardiogram, fetal Doppler studies, amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and fetal blood sampling in addition to in-utero transfusions and other invasive procedures for high-risk patients. Dr. Nhan-Chang brings to the team her expertise and extensive training in ultrasound for prenatal diagnosis and placenta imaging for Placental Accreta Spectrum disorders. She completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Staten Island University Hospital and a fellowship in MFM at The Perinatology Research Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Development/National Institutes of Health (NICHD/NIH) and Wayne State University in Detroit. Diagnosis and prevention of preterm birth and preterm premature rupture of membranes are Dr. Nhan-Chang's primary clinical and research interests. She is currently working collaboratively on investigating the role of biomechanics in normal and abnormal cervical and uterine remodeling during pregnancy. Dr. Nhan-Chang has been involved with pioneering research on Sleep Disordered Breathing and Sleep Apnea in pregnancy. She currently serves as a co-investigator on the NICHD and National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute-funded study on "Sleep Disordered Breathing during Pregnancy and Risks to Cardiovascular Health" as well as A Randomized Trial of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) for Sleep Apnea in Pregnancy. Other research interests include the role of the placenta and epigenetics in complicated pregnancies. Dr. Nhan-Chang is frequently invited to present abstracts and lectures at national and international forums. Her research is featured in the more than three dozen articles she has co-authored in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Nhan-Chang is involved in education and training for medical students, residents and fellows both locally and nationally. She holds positions on several boards and committees with a focus on simulation training, evidence based education and career advancement. She is the director of electives in Maternal Fetal Medicine for our own and for visiting medical students.
