Smith Law Clinic Criminal Defense section, where he gained valuable experience litigating felony criminal cases, doing legal research and writing, and fine-tuning his interpersonal skills.

  A firm founder, Senior Counsel André Mouledoux is a seasoned litigator who brings his clients more than 40 years of battle-hardened experience. André’s practice focuses on maritime, insurance and transportation defense. He is also a skilled commercial and corporate counsel. He has successfully litigated serious commercial disputes and catastrophic tort cases from California to Rhode Island, the U.K. to Egypt. He has tried and won defense verdicts in a number of wrongful death, spinal injury and brain damage cases in state and federal courts. He will aggressively try those cases that need to be tried and negotiate favorable settlements in those that shouldn’t be.

  Before joining Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett, Hieu primarily practiced in the Louisiana state courts. During this time, he handled matters ranging from personal injury claims to contract disputes and municipal-level criminal defense. He also gained experience in New Jersey and New York, where his practice included civil rights advocacy, foreclosure defense, consumer fraud litigation, labor disputes, and health care-related benefits hearings.

  Stephen Downer’s practice areas focus on trucking, transportation and insurance defense. Prior to joining Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett, Stephen spent four years as an Assistant District Attorney in both Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. He led jury and judge trials handling second and third-class felony offenses from arraignment to closure, including second degree murder, armed robbery, and varying felony charges, many of which carry a life sentence without possibility of parole. He also managed a daily docket, negotiated plea agreements to effectively resolve cases, and prepared cases for trial, taking numerous trials to verdict.

  Katie attended Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where she graduated Cum Laude and earned certificates in Social Justice and Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. While attending Loyola University College of Law, Katie worked as a Rule XX student Practitioner handling misdemeanor and felony cases at the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic. In addition, Katie worked as a research assistant to Professor Sandi Varnado, assisting with courses and matters focused on the Louisiana Civil Code. Katie was also a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Student Association, Maritime Law Society, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Society.

  His practice focuses on defense of maritime personal injury and property damage claims on the river and offshore, as well as insurance, transportation, and contractual matters. His experience includes all aspects of brown water and offshore marine operations. He routinely defends serious personal injury and death claims arising under the Jones Act, the General Maritime Law, Section 905(b) of the Longshore and Harbor Worker’s Compensation Act, the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, and the Death on the High Seas Act. He also handles collision cases, pipeline damage cases, fleet breakaways, multiple types of marine and construction contracts, both inland and offshore, and marine insurance issues.

  Prior to joining Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett, Tyffani primarily practiced in Louisiana’s federal and state courts. She has handled matters ranging from defending individuals, along with their insurance carriers, in personal injury suits, to defending entities in antitrust litigation and individuals in criminal actions. She has also successfully defended her clients in matters pending before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Louisiana Circuit Courts of Appeal.

Prior to joining Mouledoux, Bland, Legrand & Brackett, Phillip worked as a Plaintiff’s attorney in Shreveport, Louisiana, in both personal injury and medical malpractice.
