This is the worste dinning experience I have had in New Orleans. They were out of half of their menu and did not tell us they were out of white chicken meat until it was time to come to the table. We ordered angle hair and got fettucini. They did not know the price of the wine that was on display. It took so long to get food we finished a bottle of wine. At this point we asked to deliver to our condo 2 blocks away. After delivery average at best. I even called back to talk to general manager and was hung up on.
The Fried Chicken really is terrific... however, our first order of chicken was raw (not undercooked) but actually raw in the center. The waitress graciously apologized and quickly took the chicken baskets (we ordered it with fries) away.
And then ""it"" happened. The waitress returned with the SAME chicken -- now double fried, and the SAME fries. She actually served us old fries that had now been sitting out cold for 20 minutes. As someone intimately familiar with health code violations that chicken should have been instantly discarded and we should have been served a new dish in its entirety.
I love this restaurant and was very happy that it opened back up. but to my dismay yesterday I brought some out of town friends in to have lunch and it was a joke. We were there for over 3 hours. I honestly have never had more terrible service. Two tables of people walked out because they were never waited on. It is a small place there is really no excuse. I would wait on the food but not an hour for a drink or for a waiter to even greet me. Then the horrible waitress had the audacity to add %18 gratuity to our bill when it said NO where on the menu that that was policy. I am a local and once they found out they were so apologetic but they lost my business.
Had dinner at Fiorella's last night (Thanksgiving) - food was average at best [turkey dinner], service was slow [understandable on Thanksgiving Day]. But you can't beat the prime French Quarter location and atmosphere on Decatur St. Will try again and order their more usual fare to see if the quality improves.
Just got back from a trip to New Orleans and discovered while there--6/7-6/9/08-- that Fiorella's is no longer open for business.
ok i love good fried chicken. and ive only eaten there once. but... it wasnt too special. first thing you notice: cr@p service. they must not work for tips, because both times ive been in the waiter just didnt seem to give a damn. in fact the second time he never said a word to us after 5 minutes, so we left. but the time i did actually get served, i had the chicken. it was a lot of food for the money (great value). but the sides were bland (mac & cheese should have flavor), and the chicken....well, i dont get it. its big, yes. but popeyes has more flavor than what i tasted. so...dunno, i wouldnt call it soul food. i think the hype comes from the kids w/ small budgets whove never had the real thing.
Despite the nautical themed decor, this restaurant rocks. The vegetables were not so good, but their gumbo was well-spiced and inexpensive. The fried chicken came crispy hot and perfectly cooked. Fried pickles are awesome.
If you miss this restaurant, you really missed out. Very cheap eats, great home cooking, great service, did I mention it is CHEAP? You can't believe how good the fried chicken is. Huge portions. Locals know about this place and now you do too.
We are breakfast folk and wanted a good down home breakfast & Fiorellas delivered. Great prices, friendly service.
When we happened upon this quaint little French Market Restaurant, we were looking for a place to eat breakfast on our way home, after checking out of our hotel. We were at the French Market and asked someone where we could possibly get breakfast. She pointed across the street. It just used to be really HARD to find a place to eat breakfast (outside out hotel). Since then, we've found several places.
At Fiorella's Cafe, the service was fast; the owner was helpful and friendly; the food was delicious and it was reasonably priced. We've eat at a lot worse places, where the service was curt and the help was really rude - the food was adequate and everything was overpriced.
This place has the BEST fried chicken in town, hands down! The prices are extremely reasonable too...
I'm going to grow feathers and start clucking soon, considering how much fried chicken I've eaten at Fiorella's!!! There is just nothing that comes close.... and nothing is better. And the fact that they'll deliver in a ranging Southern thunderstorm, at no extra charge, is truly a blessing from the Goddess!!! A few other yummy items..... the house salad dressing, and the roast beef platter.
The best fried chicken anywhere. And, their vegetables are ""home cooked"" and flavorful.
