Cajun paradise

I was in N'awlins for a conference and was lucky to have a friend there who knew the scene. The first place she took me to was Coop's and oh mamma does this place rock! In addition to a fun bar crowd with locals knocking back shots to great tunes, the food blew my doors off. The first night I had the Cajun Pasta and two nights later we were back for the Redfish Meniere - both were unbelievable. Later that week I steered several colleagues there for late night beers and jambalaya and they were loving me for it! A must.

""OHG"" Gotta check this place out

The first time we went there, it was during a rainstorm and we got caught up into it. We walked in there expecting shelter. We ordered a few apps. and were very happy. We decided to visit a few years later for the ambiance. We started with the Jalapenos and Calamari. They were served with the spiciest sauce!!!! Yummmm!!! I ordered the spicy fett/alfredo with tasso and shrimp. OMG!!!!! The alfredo was VERY spicy, but delicious, and the added shrimp with crawfish and tasso-unbilievable! OMG, try to get this dish anywhere else in the US and they'll look at you like you are an idoit. The place has incredible food, but to be honest the service was lacking. We are both in the service industry and the service at Coop's desires.......service. But all in all, the food is worth getting off of Bourbon for!

Excellent find on our first night

I strongly recommend the dish I got, which was the Redfish Meuniere, and have to add that the taste of the fried mushrooms with a horseradish sauce has still not left my mouth. Beer was great, got a table quickly. Prices were totally reasonable. It was one of the nicest meals I had down there.

great place

The place is a hole, but that's part of the charm. The crowd is half local. The jambalaya was great, probably the best in the Quarter. Service was friendly.

Serious Heat

We did a bad thing when we sat down for dinner at Coops: we ordered the onion rings as an appetizer. The platter they brought the two of us could easily serve four people. But we scarfed the whole serving down. Shame on us! Our dinners were a bit disappointing though. Both the gumbo I ordered, and the Taster's Plate my mate chose, came to us fire hot. Our midwest sensibilities warned us that the food offerings might hurt us if we consumed more than a few bites. Was it Coops heavy hand with the spices? Or our inexperience with Cajun fare? I don't think I'll ever know.

Eat at Coop's

As a New Orleans native, I find that most restaurants' takes on gumbo and jambalaya are bland and boring... Coop's has changed my mind! For under ten bucks, you can get a mindblowingly awesome entree. For an appetizer, get the duck quesadillas, yum! You must get the Taste Plate: a cup of seafood gumbo, some amazing jambalaya, shrimp creole, and fried chicken! Don't forget the crawfish and tasso pasta- it's my favorite.

Outstanding Food

This is one of the two places I make a point to eat at whenever I am in N.O. Odd as it seems, the best Chicken Alfredo I have ever had is served here. The Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya is tops as well. Sit down, order up some grub and a woodchuck cider and you will think you are in heaven.

Less than I expected...

This place was just OK. The onion rings were too qreasy and at $6.50 for them I thought it was a rip off!!! I gave the waitress money for the tab and she didn't even bother to bring the change so I could leave her a tip, she just kept the rest of the money!! I thought that was just flat rude. I was going to tip her but not a 25% !!!! The menu was up on a chalk board but all the prices were erased!!

fun place, good food

On our first trip to New Orleans my girlfriend and I asked for lunch recommendations from a shopkeeper and one of the first places he recommended was Coop's. SO glad that we took his advice! We got a shrimp poboy to share and a cup each of their rabbit and sausage jambalaya and seafood gumbo. The jambalaya was some of the best I've had, especially when you wash it down with their specialty Bloody Mary's (it was, after all, only 12:30 in the afternoon!)

Fun, hold in the wall atmosphere, small tables, but great food and good service. Would definitely recommend this place again.

Better than you'd expect

Coop's is an inviting oasis along a busy strip of Decatur that also hosts Molly's, the Crow Bar and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. It's a good companion to Molly's, with a similar exposed-brick decor and a good view of the parade of street life. But the food is the real clincher, from fried calamari to intriguingly-seasoned fried chicken, good 'n greasy onion strings and a very engaging rabbit and sausage gumbo. Such surprises make Coop's an essential stop on the French Quarter bar-crawl circuit.
