BEST Sunday Brunch in NOLA

Sunday brunch....absolute heaven on earth! The bloody marys are absolutely delicious, closely rivaled by the mimosas and have whatever you want on the menu, it will be wonderful. Commanders Palace is my FAVORITE restaurant in New Orleans to have Sunday brunch at. The atmosphere is a bit more casual than Brennans, and a trio plays soft (not noisy) jazz music. Then after brunch you can enjoy a pleasant walk around the garden distrcit.

Beautiful

I have been to Commanders and it is my favorite restaurant in the city. The atmosphere in the Garden Room is wonderful and the service and food excellent.

Exquisite Dining

My CP was flawless. The food was so delectable that you just had to savor it over your tongue and palate to extend the experience of every bite. The ambience was great and the servers knew how to attend to the diners without ever being obtrusive. A memorable experience and I will return on my next visit to New Orleans.

A Disappointed Native

I always chose this restaurant to celebrate all my special occasions (birthdays, graduation, etc.), but I went back a year ago and was extremely disappointed. I ordered the fried alligator, and it was extremely greasy, soggy and luke warm. The turtle soup, a specialty, tasted like it came out of a can. Part of my food was cold, and the service has just gone downhill. This used to be one of the greatest restaurants in New Orleans...what happened?

Disappointed

My fiance' and I visited Commander's Palace because of a recommendation from a friend. We were told that the restaurant was mush better than Emeril's Delmonico. Upon arrival, we were seated in a cramped table overlooking the street! My fiance inquired about a more private setting but the waiter did not move us. The waiter was EXTREMELY loud and unprofessional. The restaurant was SO bright and the patrons were obnoxiously lous. The food was salty and overpriced. The menu was not explained properly which resulted in our ordering differently than we would have normally ordered. I have no desire to return. However, I do continue to dine at Emeril's Delmonico for brunch and dinner.

New Orleans Cuisine at it's Best!

Two years ago, for my 12th birthday, my aunt brought me to Commander's for lunch. As I sat in a great, private room, which overlooked Washington Ave., I looked at my menu wondering what anything was! The manager came by to greet us and to tell us he was glad to have us. I told him I had no idea what to choose because I didn't know what any of it was. He asked me what my favorite food was, I told him Filet Mignon, and he told me it didn't matter that it wasn't on the menu, if that's what I wanted, I could have it, and it was delicious!

Disappointing

Expected great food and service for the price - didn't get it. Food was served warm, not hot for 4 of the 6 at our table. Service was snooty, as if our server thought of us as ""lowly"" tourists. Had to ask for the wheel chair for one in the party when finished, then had to go get it where they stored it. Bread pudding souffley is to die for - unique and great! Will not be back.

Commander's Palace

My husband took me here for an anniverasry present, in July of 1995. We arrived in a horse-drawn carriage. Everything there was sparkling and sophisticated. The food was wonderful, and the service was awesome. It was SOME enchanted evening.

Great food

Great food, great service. Our only drawback was that we had a reservation for six, and they did not have a table ready. We had to wait almost an hour to be seated. Once we got seated, it was a nice experience.

DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE

LIKE MANY, WE SAVED OUR LAST NIGHT OF OUR HONEYMOON TO GO TO COMMANDER'S. WE WERE PROMPTLY SEATED, BUT AFTER THAT, WE WERE ESSENTIALLY IGNORED. THE FOOD WAS EXTREMELY AVERAGE, AND THE MUCH TOUTED SERVICE WAS PATHETIC. WE PREORDERED THE BREAD PUDDING SOUFFLE, WHICH WAS AGAIN VERY AVERAGE. WE WERE CHARGED TWICE FOR OUR BOTTLE OF WINE. AVOID COMMANDERS AND BRENNANS, BOTH TOURIST TRAPS.

Pricey but Nice

The waitstaff here was absolutely wonderful. They aim to please and I was very impressed. The food was delicious. I heard about the famous bread pudding beforehand but I have to admit that it wasn't as great as I'd heard.

One of the Country's Best

I've been twice and it keeps getting better. The food was perfect, the service was formal and attentive without being obtrusive. I went with a party of 6 and there was not a single bummer at the table. Try the turtle soup and the bread pudding souffle for signature dishes. Filet Mignon, lamb rack, drum, soft crab all perfect at my table recently. We just treated the food as if we had one big lazy Susan. I'll never pass up the opportunity to have dinner at Commander's when I'm lucky enough to be in New Orleans.

Long Waits, Lousy Service

I had read several negative reviews of Commander's Palace, yet chose not to heed their warnings. BIG MISTAKE. It took 45 min. for my mother and I to be seated. Our waiter spent the entire time doting over another table who had ordered the chef's tasting menu. He did not tell us the specials nor the fact that we had pre-order certain desserts. We gleaned this information from OTHER waiters whom we overheard. It took almost one hour for my grouper to arrive. When it did, it was ice cold! I did not send it back, fearing it would take another hour. When pressed for an explanation, our uninformed waiter replied that the kitchen was ""slammed"" by a large group that had just come in. This fiasco of a meal cost us over $140. I regret ever setting foot into Commander's Palace and strongly suggest going somewhere else.

Romance is in the Air

For special occasions I recommend this
restaurant. You can eat out in the garden, and
have a slow, leisurely delicious meal. However
I recommend for romance, take your wife. My
husband, on the occasion of the birth of our baby
boy, promptly raced off to Commander's Palace
to have a great lunch. ....alone!! That was many years ago... but I still remind him!!

The best in New Orleans

After having dinner at Commander's Palace, I can come away saying it has the best service and food in the New Orleans area! My friends and I were treated like royalty and were visited by the
operations manager, Steve Woodruff. He wanted to make sure we were having a great time and offered suggestions on what to eat! We even got a tour of the gardens, which were beautiful!
Thanks Commander's for showing us a great time! We will definately come back!

Absolutely Wonderful!!!

Commander's Palace is not only my favorite restaurant in New Orleans, but one of my favorite anywhere !! The food , ambience and service are always WONDERFUL and what really impresses is that the waitstaff is wonderful to EVERYONE, first-timers and regulars alike. Unlike Galatoire's , for example, where you're made to feel like they're doing you a favor allowing you in the door, the staff at Commander's Palace is HAPPY you're there and glad to show you how WONDERFUL the citizens of New Orleans truly are!! And the food--INCREDIBLE!!
A""10"" all around!

Best Restaurant in the Universe

Experiment, go a little wild. Try different things. Absolutely everything is great, but experiment. Ideal perfect meal: Start with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat Martini or Garde Manager Plate (pate, sausage, handmade cheese) and the Turtle Soup with Sherry. For main entre everything on the menu if amazing, but my favorite is pecan crusted trout. The Quail is truly inspired. And for desert, the bread pudding soufflé will be the best you've had in your life.

Superb service, which is getting harder to find in New Orleans lately, continues. We love Commander's. Experience the real thing, not a New Jersey impression of the real thing.
