The wait is not a problem. From the moment you walk in YOU JUST KNOW. The ambience, the muffled chatter, the elegance. Professionalism. Like a fine watch, Everyone on the staff knows their job & performs flawlessly. The entire staff is so fluid you don't even notice them yet every detail is taken care of, even before you ask. OH! That steak! Yes, I'm a steak eater everywhere I go. OH THAT STEAK! Don't miss it! Did I mention the Bread Pudding Souffle? Don't forget to order it at the beginning of your meal so they can prepare it while your eating. I love the Garden Room myself. A snifter of XO after dinner. We drive from Mobile (150 miles) & our friends fly up from Merida, Mx. & we meet at C.P. Don't miss this experience. We come as often as possible. It'll spoil you.
Last night was one of the best dining experiences I've had. Everyone thought the food was fantastic. Highlights are - Soups 1-1-1, Filet, Truffled Mashed Potatoes, Strawberry Shortcake and to die for Bread Pudding Souffle. The service is what stands out the most.
When we were being seated(me and 2 guys) they pulled out everyone's chair. They adressed me by name. Water glasses refilled AND replaced regularly. Food and drinks served in a timely matter. It was a great and memorable evening. I look forward to going back.
We have eaten at Commander's our last 2 times in NO. It has exceeded our expectations both times. The staff could not have been more attentive and the food was exquisite. I know the bread pudding is supposed to be a specialty, but I had a praline dessert that made everyone's mouth water!!! It was the highlight of my trip!
This is my favorite restaurant not only in New Orleans, but in the entire world! The soups 1-1-1 (especially the turtle soup) are exquisite, the filet mignon truly MELTS in your mouth, and the bananas Foster is divine. It just doesn't get any better than this!
To my way of thinking, Commander's Palace certainly did not live up to the hype about being the best restaurant in the U.S. Other NOLA restaurants like Mr. B's Bistro and K-Paul's certainly had better food and a more pleasant waitstaff. Our waitress was abrupt, somewhat sarcastic but efficient.
The review by Citysearch says it all but you have to experience it to feel like a king. I came in alone and had three professional waiters take care of every need and want (including some I didn't even know about). If you see it order the Iowa pork for lunch. The treatment Commander's gives it makes you think they reinvented the pig. As good as it gets in fine dining. (By the way, there is a dress code so don't wear shorts.)
After planning a meal at Commander's Palace for several months we were disappointed by the lack of service initailly upon our seating, waiting 20 minutes before someone came to the rescue to complete the delivery of the wine we had ordered. The food was very good but then the service disappeared towards the end of the meal, with another 20 minute delay at the end of the meal.
A heavenly meal for our party of 9. ALL the food was fanstastic and the wine selection was superb - the foie gras & rabbit pie melted in the mouth and the Bread Pudding Souffle lived up to its high billing! So much better than Brennan's in French Quarter under same ownership.
This is one of the best experiences in dining that I have ever had (multiple times). I truly love the Brennan family restaurants, but Commander's is hands down the best. We to New Orleans several times a year and do not miss this wonderful food and service. The Filet is outstanding and the wine list is incredible. Service is impeccable. Ambiance is romantic and fun as there are different rooms with different feelings.
There is a rumor that it was the property of a bride who was jilted on her wedding day and her father sold it with a covenant stating that it can only be a restaurant - true of false it appears that it was a large Garden District home converted for restaurant purposes. It is a bit expensive, but we save for the pleasure - AND you can come for lunch and save money.
Great food. My wife loves it there. I have been to the one in Vegas too but not the same.
I had a VERY disappointing experience at Commander's Palace last Sunday. From a restaurant of this caliper I expect so much more. First, the service was horrible. It took about 20 min. for the waitress to even take our order. The bloody mary I ordered took another 15 minutes to arrive. When the food finally did arrive, my steak was luke warm, but still rather tasty. Dessert literally took 45 minutes to arrive. After making our displeasure known to the manager, nothing but a half hearted appology was given. This was my first outing to Commander's Palace and it will be my last. I was thoroughlly disappointed!
The bread pudding souffle and turtle soup are the best in the city. The atmosphere is wonderful, the restaurant is beautiful, and the waitstaff is amazing. The kind of place to propose to your girlfriend. Prices are reasonable for this type of restaurant.
Heavenly creations await you upon completion of an equally heavenly meal. So many great places to be seated, you may never see another diner near you. Valet parking must be used, or you'll waste too much time driving around and not enough time enjoying the meal!
Nice atmosphere, but we got dragged tghrough the kitchen to be seated. Food was ok. Turtle soup = Manhatten clam chowder plus roux. Redfish is mushy. Bread pudding is bread pudding. Service was fair. Overall, no big deal. We preferred NOLA, and most other resaturants in Seattle.
I wish I had the skills to describe this dining experience. A beautiful setting, gracious service so good you may not even notice that it's going on and food to die for. Our grouo of eight had eight different entrees and all were superb. The bread pudding is a thing of beauty.
You haven't experienced New Orleans food, ambiance, service supreme, and top notch drinks until you've been to Commanders Palace.
The ambience is impeccable, the service is great, the food decent, and the Bread Pudding Souffle' is SINGLE BEST THING I'VE EVER EATEN IN MY LIFE...
I've been here 4 or 5 times (from Arkansas) and I'm never disappointed.
This is my favorite restaurant in the whole world! It's the best kept lunch secret in town, perfect to impress clients without blowing a bundle. The very best brunch in town, perfect for going to with friends, and the most beautiful and wonderful dinners for more romantic encounters. I try and eat there at LEAST once a month. I generally go to lunch or brunch there.
I can't think of a single thing negative to point out. It is expensive, but worth EVERY penny.
Went to Commanders for the first time Oct. 2001. The atmosphere is good, but a little crowded. The service was OK, when they were around, but our wait staff must have had a shift change and we were forgotten for 20 min or so. The turtle soup is a must do when you are here. Overall our entrees were very good, but not what I expected for the hype this place gets. Just a little overrated and expensive for what you get. NOLA's Restaurant in the quarter is a better bet.
went with my family and friends. we didn't bring suits on our summer vacation. had to borrow jackets. everyone was so nice even with house jackets. food was very delicious. worth every penny.
