General Info
Since 1895, Louis’ Lunch in New Haven, CT has been serving a classic hamburger sandwich to customers from across the United States. Family owned and operated, we are currently run by the 4th generation and are one of the oldest, family-run businesses in the country. Our restaurant prides itself on staying true to the family history and continuing to preserve the past for future generations. Recognized by the Library of Congress as the Birthplace of the Hamburger Sandwich, Louis’ Lunch has been featured in many print and television spots, including: The Travel Channel, The Food Network, Zagat, Food and Wine Magazine, among many others. Louis’ Lunch is committed to serving a classic hamburger that is made with a proprietary blend of five cuts of meat, ground fresh daily. We want you to experience the meat’s true flavor, so we serve it on white toast and only offer cheese, onion, and tomato as garnishes. At Louis’ Lunch, we strive to make customers feel at home. We even have a friendly, unique banter! For more information, contact us at (203) 562-5507 or stop by today! We look forward to serving you!

The service is great everyone was so friendly and funny. The food was great, it was a walk back in time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Cant wait to go back.
I love the look and feel of Louis' Lunch, I think it is really cool inside, the ovens on the counter tops, and the cozy feel to it really makes a difference. Not only is the place itself amazing, but the food is to die for.

Classic-style food at Louis' Lunch. You won't get anything like this unless you go to Louis' Lunch. Hand ground select beef.

The hamburgers are "okay", very basic beef patties with no seasoning. Choices are cheeseburger or hamburger plain, cheeseburger or hamburger w/ tomato, cheeseburger or hamburger w/onions, cheeseburger or hamburger w/ tomato & onion, they are all served on toasted white bread and no condiments are available. There is a selection of potato chips to purchase as sides and numerous beverage options. It's definitely the restaurant itself and the fact that the same propane burners are in sill use today since it's opening in 1895 that draws the patrons. The place is tiny and has seating for approximately 22 people.
