On May 14, 2014, Simetra Systems of El Segundo, Ca, signed an agreement to complete a software development project for my company. We worked with them for several frustrating months in which releases were plagued with bugs caused by failure to follow the documented development plan. On September 29, we received an email from owner/programmer Margaret Cook stating “After careful thought, it has become necessary to end our relationship.” Simetra Systems took our deposit and quit before project completion. We were left with no usable work. We lost a $2772 deposit and over 100 man hours of internal work on the project.We tried to recover our deposit. Simetra’s attorney told us the deposit was non-refundable and that Simetra had “Family Connections” to the law firm. Margaret’s legal costs would be “minimus” if litigated.In our opinion, Margaret Cook was often rude and unprofessional, and was underqualified to complete the project she bid and committed to.
