While up in the 4X4 area north of Corolla looking for the horses, we ran our Blazer thru some deep water and stalled the engine. After getting pulled out and towed to Pughs, we were told the engine had taken in water and locked up. We then contacted our insurance carrier, which worker with Pugh's in having our motor replaced. The guys at Pugh's had a new motor installed in no time and we finished our vacation without any more porblems.

I am writing to thank you, and especially your mechanic Ken for being "Life Savers" in our time of need while vacationing on the Outer Banks. On 8/12/11 we experienced our worst nightmare(car problems). Naturally, we had exceptionally bad timing, as the problems happened the day before our vacation was to end, and therefore allowing only a short window of time to get the problem fixed. We were at your shop before it opened on 8/12/11, overly anxious to see if you could help us in the "limited time" we had available. Ken, your technician did a fantastic job diagnosing the problem (a leaky power steering pressure line on our 2000 Cadillac Deville), and explaining what would be the course of action to fix the problem. He also gave us a best case/worse case completion time, as well as a cost estimate to perform the repairs. Our happy ending to the story came at about 4:00pm on that same day (8/12), when we drove out of your shop, with everything working perfectly. Thanks Pughs.

Down on the OBX for a week and on day four,our Jeep fails to start. After trying to jump it with no luck, we asked a local while eating out where to go. Several of them at the table suggest Pughs Car Care. We gave them a call after walking back to the cottage and within 20 mintues, they arrived to tow us in. Later in the afternoon, we received a call from Ray telling us that a wire in the key switch had broken causing the problem and they would have the Jeep ready before 12 the next day. They called us Friday morning around 11 and told us we were ready to go. When we got our final bill, we were surprised. We expected a much higher bill, but instead it was very reasonable, plus received outstanding service. Pugh's will be our go to place on the OBX.

I have a vacation house in Nags Head and every summer something goes wrong with one of our vehicles. As luck would have it , we decided to leave a day early, but the Tahoe wont start. Thinking I have a bad starter, I call Pughs and the come tow it in. In about two hours they call me and say I have a bad key switch and can fix it that day. Several hours go by and I get a call telling me its ready. When I get there, the bill was less than I was quoted. Fixed the same day and less money. It was a win-win. The crew a Pughs have always come thru for me.

Do not recommend, very high prices and will sucker you into more work then what is needed. I have lived in southern shores for years and everyone I know will not go here, much better shops then this on the beach.

This place was ridiculous. They feel that just because they are the only shop on the island that is AAA recommended they can treat customers however they want. The mechanics were rude to me and the owner disrespected me on the phone as well as in person when I came to pick my truck up, all I ever did was to simply have some questions for him because his mechanic's reasoning for his work did not make sense. Just because I am a young girl does not give them any reason to treat me as if my questions and concerns are not to be taken seriously. The owner didn't even give me a good explanation just insulted me and then left. This is not the only bad experience with this place. All of the locals I work with have similar stories to tell. I had to go and get the work checked out by a different mechanic down in buxton just to make sure my car was actually fixed - it wasn't. This place lacks respect for customers and any kind of professionalism.
