Founded in 1905 as Boiling Springs High School, Gardner-Webb University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, its several departmental programs are accredited by the appropriate state or national agencies, such as the education program is accredited by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The university has an enrollment of more than 4,000 students in day programs, graduate studies and the Greater Opportunities for Adult Learners program. Gardner-Webb University employs a staff of over 130 full-time faculty members. It maintains more than 10 departments that offer nearly 45 major fields of study, including business and communications studies, music and fine arts, mathematics, natural and social sciences, nursing, physical education, religious studies and world languages. Located in Boiling Springs, N.C., the university organizes a variety of student activities, athletic events and international programs, as well as operates several clubs, organizations and campus ministries.
