Resume writing has drastically changed in several ways: 1. Many people now hire resume writers, so it's common to pay for a resume and still look ordinary. 2. AI-based tools pose the same problem. Since a lot of job-seekers now use them, their resumes look generic and mechanical to me. 3. Most resumes sent for a typical opening won't be seen by human eyes because applicant-tracking software (ATS) systems screen them. They require certain types of formatting and intelligent use and placement of keywords. I regularly see formatting and keyword errors in other resume writers' work. 4. Now that the job market is digitized, employers can quickly access thousands of resumes from databases. Hundreds of resumes are usually sent by applicants once a job is posted online. Accomplishments that seemed outstanding when a resume only needed to compete with a few dozen others are now often ordinary. Effective resume writing now requires a combination of skills that I haven't seen in another writer. But my background is optimal for dealing with these changes: 1. I have written resumes for professionals at all levels in many disciplines, so I know all the conventional best practices (please see my Upwork and Google reviews). 2. I used to be a headhunter, so I know firsthand how employers evaluate resumes when they are flooded with them. I also understand the full hiring process, from the initial resume evaluation to the job offer. 3. I have been a voracious reader for over 30 years (with an 10,000-volume home library). Living with texts on a daily basis since I was a teenager has made me a better critic of documents than writers who read less areâ??I am more sensitive to all the differences between outstanding and mediocre writing. There is a big difference between just writing resumes and being a real writer. I've found English errors in half of the samples I've seen, and sloppy writing and composition in most of them. 4. I traveled all over the world and wrote about creativity, art, world cultures, music, business, travel, and religious studies. Extra breadth and the ability to look at people and their resumes in novel ways, with a bigger range of ideas, often make the difference now that resume writing has become more competitive. I will be able to see you from more perspectives than other resume writers can and find hidden selling points. At the same time, my versatility as a writer gives me extra ability to compose a document that will have more impact on readers. So I know the conventions of resume writing, and my extra breadth gives me the vision to exceed them and deal with all the new variables in the job market.
