- Residential Pest ControlIf you’re in need of a one-time residential pest control solution, a knowledgeable Braman representative will discuss your pest problem and, in most instances, offer both a solution and a price right over the phone. The service will be guaranteed for up to six months and if you are not satisfied that we have taken care of the problem, you can get your money back.
- Commercial Pest ControlWith so many varying standards, we require our technicians, supervisors and managers to attend continuing education classes to stay on top of commercial pest control audit developments. This ensures that they are familiar with the requirements for...
- AntsCarpenter ants are a social insect, meaning they live in colonies of up to 5,000 members! Although black is the most common color, carpenter ants can also be brown, orange, red or even a combination of red and black. They have several classes: workers, queens, and winged reproductives. Workers excavate wood to create nesting sites, defend the colony from intruders and forage for food to feed all members of the colony; queens lay eggs; and the winged reproductive males and females disperse to propagate the species and form new colonies. The workers come in many sizes but can be anywhere from ¼ to 1/2 of an inch long. The winged females (which become queens) can be very large at around ¾ of an inch in length. If you spot any of these variants, you may be in need of carpenter ant treatment.
- SpidersNorth America is home to about 3,400 of the categorized 40,000 species of spiders in the world. There are so many different spider species, that we can’t possibly identify all of them here, but we can help with the likely culprits you’ll find in your home. Most spiders are simply a nuisance and not harmful to humans; only a few are considered medically important. If you’re in need of spider removal, Braman is here to assist you with multiple methods of spider pest control.
- TermitesIt’s important to note that some pests or settings often require a site evaluation prior to service and may not lend themselves to a one-time treatment solution. For example, since they’re usually a longer term problem, there’s really no such thing as one-time termite control solutions. The same goes for multi-family residential, which will need to be assessed for other issues in neighboring units.
- Bed BugsThere’s no bigger concern than bed bugs when it comes to the lodging industry. While these pests are small, they can cause big damage to your name, reputation and bottom line. We offer a full range of services to help protect your property, customers and brand.
- FleasFleas undergo a full metamorphosis. Eggs are laid on a host, but easily fall off onto carpets, furniture, cracks and crevices where they hatch into worm-like larvae and then develop into immobile pupae. The pupal stage, which is akin to the cocoon of a butterfly, can remain dormant for weeks or months when no hosts are around to ensure its survival. However, when the pupa is stimulated by a vibration or change in temperature that indicates a potential host is near, the adult flea emerges from its dormancy and immediately jumps to obtain a blood meal. So, vacating a home for some time to “starve out” the fleas rarely works—they just patiently wait for your return.
- CockroachesCockroaches are one of the world’s oldest known pests, with ancestors dating back hundreds of millions of years. Their longevity is due in large part to their ability to adapt to a variety of environments. These flattened insects usually have two pairs of wings folded over their backs, and while many species rarely fly, they can scuttle around with incredible speed on their long spiny legs. Cockroach control is crucial both because of the role they can play as carriers of intestinal diseases and their ability to cause asthma and allergies in children.
- SilverfishSilverfish are primitive, wingless, carrot-shaped insects covered in a fine layer of silvery scales. They have long antennae and three long bristles on their rear. They move in a wiggling motion that resembles the movement of a fish, hence the name. Silverfish are nocturnal and secretive, which means an infestation may go undetected for a long time. They also reproduce quickly and typically live for two to eight years. Silverfish pest control can be difficult due to this hard-to-detect nature, but Braman is ready to identify and apply silverfish control methods.
- BeesThe carpenter bee is a large species, often mistaken for a bumble bee. Unlike bumble bees, which have hairy abdomens, carpenter bees have shiny abdomens.
- WaspsWasps, on the other hand, are often aggressive when foraging for food and extremely defensive of their colonies. There are several types we commonly deal with in our region, including...
- TicksTicks are parasitic arachnids ranging from about two millimeters to as large as ten millimeters in size. The most common concern in our region is
- CricketsIf you hear a chirping sound in your home, the house cricket is the most likely culprit. House crickets are tan in color with a dark band on the head. You may also see field crickets, which are solid brown or black, or even camel crickets which are humpbacked and leggy. Besides seeing one of these types of pests, the most obvious sign of an infestation is the loud sound the males make by rubbing their wings together to attract females. Braman can help if you have a larger infestation issue.
- EarwigsThe name of the earwig is almost as frightening as its pincers, but it’s actually based in superstition. An old European myth suggested these bugs could tunnel in through ear canals and into brain cavities while people slept, but it has no basis in reality. Despite the fact that earwigs don’t pose any threat to humans, they can produce a foul-smelling liquid as a self-defense mechanism and can pinch with their pincers when mishandled. They spend most of their time hiding in mulch and under stones, where they may originate before coming indoors. Braman has the ability to help remove earwigs in home or business sites.
- MosquitoesNo creature on earth seems to be as universally hated as the mosquito. You’ve certainly encountered them while jogging, camping, grilling, or hiking outside. Or maybe, you’ve heard them buzzing around your house while you’re trying to relax and get some sleep. Either way, mosquito removal is a service you’ve considered before.
- FliesFlies come in different sizes and varieties, but they have two things in common: they feed and breed in disgusting places and they spread germs. The most common large fly to find indoors is the house fly while the most common small fly to find indoors is the fruit fly. While there are many types of flies which indicate different problems, we specialize in all types of identification and fly removal.
- MillipedesMillipedes are worm-like creatures with numerous legs. They feed on detritus, dead insects and decaying plants. Some species can give off a foul-smelling fluid that can be toxic to small animals and pets and can cause blisters or discoloration of skin for some people. Like most occasional invaders, they move indoors when outdoor conditions are not favorable so proper sealing is necessary for prevention. Braman can help you deal with larger infestations.
- BeetlesWhile powderpost beetles frequently breed in dead and dried hardwoods like tree limbs and branches. They get indoors when lumber is stored improperly, prior to being made into hardwood floors, cabinetry, or structural timbers. Adult beetles deposit their eggs in the pores and exit holes of lumber, most frequently in the springtime. The mature larvae are small, white grubs just a fraction of an inch long that remain in the wood through the winter and reach their adulthood in the spring. These beetles then do additional damage trying to exit the wood that they were born into. Life cycles are long, lasting anywhere from one to five years, depending on species—so infestations are not immediately noticed.
- HornetsWhile we pride ourselves on the effectiveness of our MultiPest Plan, we know that not every problem requires an ongoing service program. It’s possible to go pest-free for years, but when hornets build a nest in a shrub or mice take up residence under your sink, you may need our one-time pest control services.
- Yellow JacketsSometimes called white-faced hornets, bald-faced hornets are basically robust yellow jackets with white and black coloring. Hornets capture other insects to feed to their developing larvae. Hornets aggressively defend their colonies just like yellowjackets. The hive is a gray paper-like mass that gradually expands throughout the summer until it is about the size and shape of a football with an opening at the bottom. Active nests may contain anywhere from 100 to 700 hornets.
- MothsMoths that cause problems for homeowners and businessowners in southern New England fall into two categories: grain moths or clothes moths. When it comes to winged grain pests, the most commonly found species are the Indianmeal moth and the Mediterranean flour moth. Braman’s moth control methods can help you remove these nuisances quickly. When it comes to grain pests, moth removal is imperative because they have the ability to contaminate large amounts of stored grain-based products.
- Stink BugsBrown marmorated stink bugs are mainly agricultural pests, hated by farmers and backyard gardeners alike for their habit of piercing through fruits and vegetables with their mouthparts and causing noticeable bruising of produce. Additionally, they tend to move indoors in the fall to begin their hibernation for the winter. If you’re suffering from a stink bug invasion in your home or business, Braman can provide help through our stink bug removal service.
- Pantry PestsThe best way to prevent a pantry pest infestation is by practicing good sanitation. If a problem develops, the source of the infestation is usually a forgotten food item in the back of a cabinet or dry pet food and bird seed.
- Stinging InsectsOne-time pest control solutions are applicable when you’re bothered by a single type of pest, you only require a short-term solution or you’re in need of an inspection prior to a special event. This service can sometimes, but not always, be appropriate for spiders, nuisance ants, stinging insects, grain insects, mice or others.
- MitesClover mites are tiny, about the size of a pinhead with a reddish-brown coloring. Their activity increases in the cooler, early spring months and they are known for eating hundreds of different plant species. The best way to prevent their entry to your home is to patch up cracks and gaps and to clear all vegetation around the border of your home (and use gravel or rock for a vegetation-free band). Braman can help stop their entry indoors.
- SpringtailsSpringtails are numerous and found throughout the United States and prefer very moist conditions. They do not pose any threat to people or pets and are not known to spread disease, but their presence can be unsightly and can be indicative of moisture issues in your home. They can jump and are often mistaken for fleas. Braman can help you identify these areas of moisture and remove the infestation. Exclusion is key for long-lasting control.
- AphidsThese ants are otherwise known as citronella ants due to the distinctive odor emitted when they are crushed. The worker is yellow and about a ⅙ of an inch long. They often nest in rotting wood or under landscaping elements near the house where they feed on honeydew, a sugar-rich sticky liquid, excreted by aphids on ornamental plants.
- Sow BugsPillbugs are actually terrestrial crustaceans known for their ability to roll into a ball. They have seven pairs of legs and look heavily armored. Pillbugs will come indoors and gravitate towards moisture, so fix exclusion issues like cracks around basement windows to prevent their entry. You may also find sowbugs, which have a similar look to a pillbug, but with a pair of tail-like appendages that project outward from the rear of the body. If you want to know how to get rid of pillbugs or sowbugs that have already infested your home, start by vacuuming the area. If the problem persists, contact Braman.
- Boxelder BugsAs the name implies, these pests usually feed on the seeds of boxelder trees but will also target maple and ash. If you are in need of boxelder bug control, Braman can help you through a combination of treatment and preventative measures.
- BatsBats are nocturnal flying animals, with more than 40 species inhabiting the United States. Some of the species can live for up to 30 years, so bat removal is key, or you could be dealing with this pest for a long time.
- RaccoonsThe bald-faced hornet will aggressively defend its nest with repeated stinger jabs. The stinger can also spray venom directly into the eyes of any nest intruder—raccoons, foxes or unlucky humans.
- SnakesMosquitoes are hated for good reason—they’re not just annoying, they’re the deadliest creature to humans in the world (other humans and snakes round out the top three)!
- BirdsCopesan pest control partners provide integrated pest management services for every need including insect, rodent, stored product pest and bird control. As a partner, we also provide heat treatments, sanitation consultations, pre-audit inspections, vegetation management and training of your personnel.
- WoodpeckersDamage to structural wood is rare, but you may find the holes the carpenter bee makes around your home, as well as the yellow fecal stains they leave, unattractive. Additionally, woodpeckers will try to “remove” the bee larvae from the wood and cause even more damage than the bees.
- SparrowsFeral pigeons prefer to roost on ledges and roofs, while European starlings and English sparrows prefer cavities and voids. All of these are problematic locations for commercial facilities. While birds can end up in almost any location at any time of year, you’re most likely to see them in the spring. Braman handles these nesting problems and can remove birds from home and commercial environments including...
- StarlingsEuropean starlings are the most populous songbirds in North America, but they were first introduced to the continent by Shakespeare enthusiasts in the 19th century!
- PigeonsDo you hear that? Pigeons have excellent hearing abilities and can detect sounds at much lower frequencies than humans.
- RodentsHaving an entomologist on staff allows us to understand and prevent infestations rather than immediately relying on conventional pesticides for every issue. Braman always begins a job by looking for environmentally friendly pest solutions such as exclusion, mechanical trapping and sanitation. These green rodent control or insect control measures are the safest for humans, animals and the environment. If these preferred methods are unsuccessful or unavailable for a job, we then turn to minimum-risk products, which are exempt from the typical EPA registration process because of their very low toxicity to humans and animals.
- MiceHouse mice can reproduce as soon as six weeks after birth. That means two dozen mice can become 2,000 mice in just eight months!
- RatsRats are found primarily where people live. Usually, they will nest in basements or lower levels of buildings. The best prevention against rats is good exterior sanitation and keeping your building in a good state of repair. Make sure you properly dispose of garbage and remove clutter from around your property. Good sanitary practices will not eliminate rats in all instances, but it will make the environment less hospitable, improving rat and pest control outcomes.
