We hired Baker Home Improvement for a kitchen remodel, utility room remodel, laundry closet and water damage repair. In the end, we had to complete the job using subcontractors due to overall shoddy work and less-than-ethical business practices. While we have numerous complaints, the worst involved Baker wiring our kitchen. He avoided getting a permit for the job after multiple requests. We now know why. One code violation after another. Baker was quick to do drywall and plaster to hide work. In the end, master electrician was hired to discover code violations and city inspector called in to review. City inspector not at all happy with Baker's work. Mr. Baker was willing to leave these fire hazards hidden with children in the house. I strongly recommend against hiring Mr. Baker.
Baker Home Improvement came out to give me an estimate on demolition and repairing of some siding. The man who came out was extremely nice and quoted me a fair price. When I called him to hire him I never got an answer. I dont know if he did not think he could do the job for what he quoted me or because of the holidays. Unfortunately I had to go with a different contractor. I still have not heard back from him.
Tim came out and did a repair to our home in Norfolk. There were several things that he did. He repaired a gate, repainted a porch and repaired a leak in our back room.
Unfortunately, the gate is broken again and the roof has been leaking again since May. He did come out, after several attempts of getting in touch with him, to look at the roof leak. He stated to me that it was a piece of siding that had come loose and that the gutters were probably causing the leak.
He fixed the siding, but we didn't have him do the gutters at the time. After several attempts at getting him back over to the house (since August) he has not shown up, called or emailed me back. This is a rental home and we live in CA, otherwise we would have done all of this on our own. It is tough to get done when you live 3000 miles away.
Now the ceiling has cracked and is falling in all due to the wrong materials being used while installing flashing to the roof. So if you want a job done right and you want the contractor to stand behind his work, don't use Baker Home Improvement. Chances are, he won't show up to fix his own disasterous repairs.
My recomendation to Mrs. Hill was to replace the hole roof to stop the water from coming in. She had a flat roof that another contractor coverd up with a new gable roof, and just left the old one under it. The way the new roof tied in to the house was wrong! The only thing I told Mrs. Hill was I could try to stop the water if she would not replace the hole roof. What we agreed to was to install new siding to the area above the roof and flash over the seam where the gable roof meets the house. She still needs a new roof!!! And that what I did. She called me and told me more than a year later there was a new leak, I looked and told her the same thing she needed a new roof. Also her gutters where full of leafs and could over flow into the house she should have them cleaned. She didant want me to do that, but to repair the leaking sink, wich I did and did'ant charge her for!!! If I do such bad work why did she have me come back three times to do other repairs! And evan I set traps in her attic to catch rats!! About the gate the wind knocks over the hole thing! You cant make a shack into a luxury home for $1000.00 Thank You for Reading. Tim Baker
My home was built in 1939. It is an architectural classic. Tim and company have made it shine. The attention to detail (lots of architectural details that required much scraping and sanding), tha application of two full cpats of top quality paint, and attention to minor gutter and other small repairs was superb. Come by and take a look and I think you'll hire Tim for your next paint job.
I have lived in here since 1987. I painted it myself twice during hat time. Compared to this paint job, I would have given myself very poor reviews.

They have worked at my house twice and did excellent work. It looks great. They went back and corrected any concerns that I had. I would definitely use them again. I did have an issue with them returning my call, but I call them, and he responded immediately.
I'm not sure how their work is because they came to assess the job, told me they would get me an estimate the next day, and that is the last I heard from them. This was about a week and a half ago. No call, no e-mail, no visit. Guess I will go find me a contractor who cares about my business.
A few years ago Tim Baker and his crew painted the exterior of my Ghent home and did a terrific job, so when I had water damage made by the November Nor'easter, I called Baker Home Improvement to complete the repairs. The repairs consisted of replacing the cap and flashing around my chimney, replastering two walls and repainting two rooms. The water damage produced mold on my living room wall above the fireplace so I was anxious to get the work done.
Tim Baker came out, assesed the damage, gave me an estimate and even worked with my insurance company for settlement.
We set a start date and no one showed up. I called Tim and left several messages. When I finally got in touch with him a couple of weeks later, he informed me they would start work the following Monday or Tuesday. Two more weeks went by and no one showed up. I called Tim several times and left messages, which went unreturned.
I finally gave up and now, six months after the storm, I have had to find another contractor to complete the job.
After working with them for a couple of months, they completely blew me off - left me high and dry. My only guess is they found a higher-paying gig.
This has been a very disappointing experience and I will never call on Baker Home Improvement or recommend them to my friends and neighbors again.
This person was very hard to work for! You would think just telling someone your to busy to do there job, thay would find someone ealse to do the work. Not bad mouth the company that did no harm to her. Just didant want to work for her is all. Didant take any deposits or mislead her in any way. Thanks Tim Baker
We just moved into an older house in Colonial Place. Tim and his staff have done exceptionally fine work in the painting and refinishing work we asked them to do. The painting makes the interior of this colonial house look stunning. The plumbing was done professionally so that it is either invisible or blends in very well. They also shored up the roof of my garage and ran new electrical to it. All of his team members are courteous and professional. I would highly recommend them to anyone, and I will certainly have them back for more work should it be necessary.
Mr. Baker was not only the most courteous and reliable contractor I've had the pleasure of working with but also very talented! My new bathroom is the most beautiful room in the house! His quote was accurate and he was very thorough in detailing the specialized accent tiling I requested as well as the decorative trim. You could not ask for a more pleasant experience when it comes to home improvements!
Pros- Overall I was very satisfied with the work performed. The painters were all very courteous, friendly and professional. The quote was accurate. Excellent job on repairing some damaged walls
Cons- the job was delayed several times without calling me. I was told they would start in 2 weeks and they started in 4. This was a 2 bedroom 1 bath small apartment that should have took 2 guys about 5 days MAX. They only sent 1 guy and it took him 10.
In the end I was satisfied with the work. the place looks great and there were several challenging areas to paint which they did an outstanding job on. I would definitely hire them again but with some clearer communication to begin with.
We were selling our house in Norfolk and the exterior needed to be painted. We were looking for a painter and a friend told us they were pleased with Baker Home Improvement.
We called and spoke with Tim Baker and he was able to come out that afternoon.
We also needed a section of fence built and several other home repairs. Tim gave us an itemized, written quote. We agreed on the price and Tim's crew started work the next week.
The workers were friendly and professional and did a good job.
The house sold in three weeks. Before closing the inspector found a couple more things we needed to repair.
We called Tim again. He came out that very day and made the repairs himself so there would be no delay in our closing.
Baker Home Inmprovement went above and beyond what we expected and we highly recommend them.

Baker Home Improvement provided us exceptional service while painting the exterior of our home. We were so pleased that we had his crew paint the majority of the interior of our home while that were there. The overall value of their craftsmanship and professionalism was well worth the cost, I am glad our friends recommended Tim to us. We will definitely use Baker home improvement again in the future.
Last month, we had the Baker Home Improvement team paint approximately half of our home. We hired Baker after seeing the quality job they did in the home of a family member. Mr. Baker was responsive to our initial contact and provided a detailed and acceptable quote in a timely manner. We were very comfomfortable with the crew that was in our home. They came when they said they would be here and put in a good days work. The team was skilled and very well mannered. The job was completed on time and definately to our satisfaction.
My wife and I recently hired Tim to do some interior painting for us in our home. This is our second time using Tim - in the past we had his company do some exterior painting at our old house in Ghent. Tim was professional and respectful from the estimate all the way through to the finished product. Tim personally supervised his crew and did much of the work himself. He really took the time out to find out exactly how we wanted things, and was willing to do a couple of minor extras during the project with no probelms. He was very accomindating to some scheduling issues that we had, and did a nice job with our two young children who seemed to always want to be right underfoot. Tim is by far the best contractor that we have ever dealt with. When that next project comes up, we will definelty be hiring Tim Baker again.
My wife and I bought a fixer-up in Ghent. Our architectural review board required some repairs to the trim and a window lentil on the exterior of our home. A local paint store provided Tim's card in addition to two other contractors. Tim provided an excellent bid on the exterior trim and as he passed through our kitchen, commented that he also did custom kitchen repairs. We initially dismissed the claim, until he suggested repainting the existing cabinets and providing a low-cost kitchen overhaul. His ideas for the kitchen saved us $10,000 over the cost of having new cabinets installed.
We gave him a cabinet door to paint as a sample, while he executed the exterior work. Meanwhile, I called three of his references and they all gave great reviews. While he finished the exterior trim work, he provided the sample cabinet door and we contracted him to paint all of the cabinets and finish all of the paint work on the interior of the house.
In the end, we contracted Tim to paint the exterior trim, replace a brick window lentil, paint two small hallways from ceiling to floor trim, paint the living room ceiling, paint all of our cabinets in the kitchen, install a new pantry, install a micro hood over the stove, install a new cabinet over the refrigerator, install crown molding in the kitchen and touch up some other paint areas. The price for all of this work was less than the cost some contractors had provided for the cabinets alone.
Not only did he save us a lot of money, his ideas were great and his team's workmanship was excellent. My wife and I are extremely detail oriented and have had some recent horrible experiences with contractors in this neighborhood. Tim is by far the best contractor for value and quality we've had in our home.
We highly recommend his services and will probably hire him again soon.
I had Baker Home Improvement paint the down stairs of my house and rebuild and enlarge my back porch. From the initial estimate to the last day the crew was at my house everyone was refreshingly curteous and professional. It's nice to see that there are still small companies that believe a GREAT job can be done at a fair price. As the project was being done the owner, Tim, was on site quite often making sure everything was beingdone exactly as I wanted it. It was actually a pleasure to see Tim's crew show up every morning to get to work! Once everything was done, I was very happy to see that everything looked better than I even thought it would.
I will definately be using this company for any future needs I have at my home!
