The Criminal Investigations Division is a part of the Mount Vernon Police Department, which strives to maintain a peaceful and safe environment and protects residents lives and properties. The division handles cases related to burglary, robbery, fraud, forgery, automobile theft, property and technology crimes. It is responsible for the investigation of murder cases, sexual assaults and traffic accidents. The Mount Vernon Police Department also operates records, property and patrol divisions. The department maintains the Citizens Academy, which provides the working knowledge of the police department to residents. The Mount Vernon Police Department enforces animal, alarm and noise ordinances. The department is governed by the City of Mount Vernon in Washington.
