The college was founded in 1955 and is a teaching institution that offers a variety of academic courses and extracurricular programs. The college also provides a lab for natural science and agricultural programs, recreational facilities for baseball, softball and sand volleyball, a golf driving range, and bicycling and walking paths. Rend Lake College is approved by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
