General Info

Built in 1847, when West Virginia was the western part of Virginia, the hotel was known as the Moorefield Hotel Company and the stockholders included Charles Carter Lee, eldest brother of Robert E. Lee. After the Civil War, it was operated by Captain C. B. Mullin, who made it into a renowned hostelry famous for its food. During Captain Mullin's tenure in the 1860' and 70's, known as the Golden Days of Moorefield, old hotel registers indicate that many men of note and distinction were guests. When we first arrived we waited at the front desk to be seated. After a minute a waiter walked by and said he would be with us in a minute. After 5 minutes he finally returned and seated us. The food was subpar. We ordered the crab nachos as an appetizer and the crab cake sandwiches as our meal. We were disappointed in both. The nachos had very little crab and had a weird sweet taste. The crab cakes had a lot of breading like you would find at your neighborhood sub shop. The waiter did not check with us during the entire meal so our drinks were not refilled. Save your money and go someplace else.
