I often fished Arrow Lake as a teenager back in the 1960s. It is a perfect miniature at just a few acres in size, & only 35 miles from NYC. This serenely beautiful jewel has an undeveloped, very irregular & somewhat hilly shoreline, numerous islands, rocky points, emergent grasses, lily pads, overhanging and fallen trees, & excellent bass, bluegill & pickerel fishing. I have since fished many lakes from Florida to the Canadian border, in Minnesota & Wisconsin to the Rocky Mountains & yet it still is among my favorite lakes for esthetics & the total fishing experience. Rowboats keep the lake tranquil & the islands contribute to the sense of solitude. Arrow Lake could just as well be in the Adirondacks or in some areas of the Canadian north woods. The original Russian owners were charming & their beautiful teenage daughters who sunned themselves on the swimming beach & on some of the islands were a constant distraction. But the fish prevailed. Arrow Park must be preserved!!!
