Founded in 1935, the Department of Aerospace Engineering provides various undergraduate, master's and doctoral degree programs for advanced study. Its academic curriculum includes classes in mathematics and physical and engineering sciences. Located in Mississippi State, Miss., the department offers classes for the development of problem solving, application, analytical and communication skills. The Department of Aerospace Engineering also focuses on engineering design throughout its curriculum. It maintains classrooms and research laboratories, as well as a student lounge area, which includes wind tunnels, instruments and unmanned aircraft fabrication rooms and equipment. The department participates in a variety of research activities in the areas of aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, structures, astrodynamics, composite materials, and stability and control. The Department of Aerospace Engineering is operated by the Bagley College of Engineering, which is a part of the Mississippi State University.
