Kansas City is internationally famous for its fountains. In 1973 Harold and Peggy Rice established the City of Fountains Foundation to assist citizens and organizations to develop new public fountain projects including required endowments for their continued maintenance. The Foundation manages these funds and helps secure endowments to maintain Kansas City's older fountains and monuments. It also serves as an advocate to raise awareness and increase civic pride in the Kansas City area’s fountains, monuments and sculptures.
