I drove 3.5 hours to see this place and it was well worth the drive. It will get your creative juices flowing. I just wish I could sew clothes also, in addition to quilts.
Finding and finishing your fabric selection at Harris is like completing a marathon. The place is overwhelming until you get your bearings. Have a mentor if possible--car pool and buy your friend lunch afterwards.Wear your comfy shoes with arch lifts because there are miles of walking on concrete that you will accomplish before you leave. Wash your eyeglasses and perhaps bring an eyeshade for the warehouse lighting. Think through your sewing projects before leaving home. Discipline yourself. Otherwise, you will go home with bags of fabric finds. Great place for those looking for that "something special" that you can't find anywhere else. In my case, they have silks, linens, wools appropriate for historic costuming. It's not unusual to see husbands sitting alone in cars in the parking lot, reading the newspaper or listening to the ball game.
