Me and eating team co-captain ventured out today for a LATE lunch, that is to say, it was blue hair dinner hour. (SOMEONE was hungover to beat the band) Anyhoo, we had the hardest time deciding what to get. Its overwhelming. I thought I had it until I read "horseradish cheese". F. This is hard! Finally decided on the roast beef with horseradish cheese on challah. AND an oreo malt. AND we got mac and cheese wedges. The man got the Kentucky Hot Brown. Its a open faced sandwich...rotisserie turkey, alfredo, tomatoes, bacon and parm....Im sure any minute now he will log on and tell you all about it. Bread was perfectly soft and crispy. Malt was zee bomb. Cheese was very horsey and rather radishy. Meat, fab, and the au jus, Well, It was so good I dunked my sammie in it.

I've eaten at Mort's several times and most recently this past week. I decided to try something different this time and shared the chicken in the pot with a friend. The soup, matza balls and kreplach were almost as good as my wifes homemade. The chicken was OUTSTANDING!!! It is MUCH better than anything else in the Twin Cities. I've eaten their Corned Beef in the past and it has improved dramatically since they first opened. The service has also improved. The bad news, with an emphasis on BAD, are the pickles. Mort's has done us all an injustice by changing their pickles. The waiter told us they recently changed and several other customers have also complained. Come on David. If you want to be a REAL NY DELI or LINCOLN Deli, don't cut back on the pickles. Either serve the REAL deal, or don't serve them. Otherwise, you're doing a fine job.

The first time we tried Mort's, we got sandwiches carryout and they were among the best we've ever had. We ate in the driveway, so as not to wake the baby asleep in her car seat. We called in another carryout order a few weeks later, and I failed to check all the boxes and bags until I got home. The guy on the phone was very nice and clearly intended to get me my chocolate pudding, but it was MIA. [shrug] It happens. How annoying then to realize that the chicken Caesar wrap contained no chicken at all. For a crouton sandwich it was okay, but seriously. That's a quality control issue, and shouldn't even be able to happen. Here's the good news: even in the middle of lunch rush, manager Carlo has promised to make it up on our next order. Mort's is "on the bubble" with us, but it's not because of the food. The quality is very good, though whether it's worth the price is a worthy debate. For now we are still fans, and at least they seem to have the right attitude.

Great hot pastrami sandwich. Reuben was a meh. Chopped liver was a four out of five. Red velvet was really good. I would go back for the pastrami and desserts.

Amazing pickles (I don't even like pickles, and I'm not pregnant), delicious lox and bagels, huge portions, excellent service, close parking, outdoor seating - what could be wrong? Not much. A little pricey, but worth it!

I've never seen anyone walk out the door without a to-go box, and the place is full of Jews-- we take this eating thing seriously. If you plan on heading delii-ward, clear at least two hours out of your schedule, just because it takes that long to chew all the consumables they'll plunk down in front of your face. Reasons to love Mort's include the Yiddish sprinkled all over the menu, the home-made chips, and the fact that at least one third of the diners at any given moment know my grandma. Oh, and the giant refrigerator case full of prehistoric sized desserts at the front. That's where you'll find me, glassy eyed, drooling, and reciting over and over again, "Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is Mort."

I stopped in at Mort's Delicatessen to grab a bite on my way home one day. It was about 1:20 pm, so the lunch rush was pretty much over, and I could be in and out. I was greeted warmly by the hostess and shown the menu and display case of incredible desserts. I placed my order ordered and proceeded to make small talk with the hostess between her greeting people and showing them to the tables. One thing I noticed was the friendly, smiling wait staff and counter people. It was after lunch, and everybody should be tired and somewhat grumpy, rolling their eyes as more people proceeded to enter the establishment. This was exactly the opposite-they cheerful and eager to be busy. I couldn't wait to eat. I ordered pastrami with horseradish cheese on caraway rye with all the fixings, and a piece of 6-layer chocolate cake that I brought to the fetching Mrs. Politte for an afternoon surprise at her job (I am such a mensch). There was enough meat for five sandwiches

Two Thumbs Way UP!! I love this place! I was there once in early December before the scathing reviews and then returned today to see what all the negative fuss was about.

The smoked brisket is amazing. And the cheesecake... well there aren't words that describe the deliciousness.

So here is the deal. I have read all of the comments about Mort's Deli and I have to tell you, I love the food. The Pastrami is melts like butter. Words truley give there food no justice, the portions were great, the food is great and so is the service. So this leaves me with the comments that were left on this site, and my opinion is check it out for yourself. Warning it is not a New York nor a Chicago Deli it is a Minnesota Deli.

I've been there three times and so far I have stuck to corned beef or pastrami. Somebody complained about the prices. Considering that I've gotten two meals out of each sandwich, I'd say it's a bargain. I thought the waitress made a mistake and brought be a bowl of soup instead of a cup. That's how big the portions are. In the to-go area, they have some candies that were popular in the 60's and hard to find now. Service had been spotty, but our last waitress did a fine job. I'll be going back soon to try the home-style turkey dinner. We saw someone else enjoying it and it looked great.

I have been to Morts 2 different times for lunch. Both times the service and food were excellent. The pastrami and corned beef are the best I have had since moving to Minnesota. This is how a real deli should be. I have never hard an issue with service or the knowlege of the servers. Everyone at my table had been to New York and agreed this is the closest thing to a real deli in Minnesota.

From the minute I walked in, I felt immediately welcomed. Our host sat us down at a table that was very clean. Almost every table around us was full, but even so our waitress came right away and got drink orders. When we ordered our food, she gave us some great suggestions as to what to get and what not to get. My sandwich was great, and so were the fries that I ordered on the side. All in all, I thought everything was very good. I will definitely go there again.
