- ArthritisYou should disclose to your doctor if you or someone in your family has a connective tissue disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren’s syndrome, or scleroderma. These factors increase the risk of complications during the surgery and recovery. Though serious complications are rare, implant rupture and capsular contracture (a condition in which scar tissue can cause hardening of the breast, making it unnatural looking and in the worst cases, painful) can develop even with the best care. Our doctors will discuss your particular medical history and all potential breast augmentation risks in detail.
- Medical Weight LossBut what if your weight loss journey has left you with excess skin around your abdomen, buttocks and thighs? Following significant weight loss, many people struggle with loose, hanging skin or redundant folds that conceal the healthy body underneath. Often, patients say they feel fit and vibrant inside, but their physical transformation is hidden by the larger frame they formerly filled out.
- Primary CareYour surgeon may require a pre-surgery mammogram if you are > 40 years of age or have a family history of pre-menopausal breast cancer and a physical exam by your primary care physician to assure you are medically ready for surgery. Arrange for an adult to drive you home after surgery. You will also need an adult to stay with you the first night.
- Smoking CessationIf you are considering brow lift surgery in the Minneapolis area and are in good general health, you may be an excellent candidate. Non-smokers are the best candidates for surgery. However, surgery can still be safe if smoking cessation is achieved for the recommended period before and after the procedure. Candidates must also have no medical conditions that could pose a risk during surgery or recovery, and have realistic expectations for what a brow lift can accomplish.
- Laser Eye SurgeryIt is generally required that you be in good mental and physical health before undergoing surgery. If you smoke, have a history of dry eyes, have thyroid issues, have high blood pressure or have other preexisting health conditions, you are more likely to experience complications during the procedure. It is recommended to avoid having Lasik surgery within 6 months of an upper and/or lower eyelid lift. The best way to know whether you are a candidate for eyelid surgery is to schedule a consultation with a professional plastic surgeon.
- PregnancyThis is also true in the case of pregnancy. A significant number of women who go through pregnancy and childbirth end up with a “stomach pooch” that simply does not go away regardless of how much diet and exercise they commit to.
- Labor and DeliveryWomen’s bodies are capable of remarkable things during pregnancy. The way your body transforms to carry, birth and nurture a child is awe-inspiring, almost magical — but you may not feel the same way about some of the changes that are left behind. Loose skin, stretch marks, excess fat and drooping, deflated breasts are common complaints after childbirth. Although we see many images of celebrities who seem to miraculously regain their pre-pregnancy figure with the help of a personal trainer, the reality is that these issues often do not respond to diet and exercise, and it may take more than a commitment to health to restore a body that makes you feel good. Fortunately, a mommy makeover can bridge the gap to address post-pregnancy breast and body concerns.
- Mental HealthAll candidates for breast fat grafting should be in good physical and mental health before undergoing surgery and have realistic expectations of what can be achieved through this technique. If you have preexisting conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes or obesity, you may be at a higher risk of developing surgical complications. Nicotine usage also increases the risk of complications significantly.

- UltrasoundIf you choose silicone implants, the FDA currently recommends a high definition ultrasound 5-6 years after implantation then again at 2-3 year intervals after that to monitor for rupture. FDA studies have shown no statistical increase in breast cancer or connective tissue disorders associated with silicone implant placement or subsequent rupture. However, if left undetected, silicone implant rupture can result in scar tissue formation called capsular contracture.
- MRIEven if your initial surgery went smoothly, a number of factors could cause your results to deviate from your expectations. These factors might be linked to the procedure itself, the breast implants, or changes that occur over time. Revision surgery may be necessary or recommended by your doctor if you experience certain complications, but it can also be performed to help you achieve a good cosmetic outcome. Patients considering breast revision should be healthy, have reasonable goals, and able to follow their surgeon’s recovery advice to avoid future problems. Those who are concerned about the integrity of their breast implants or having symptoms related to them may also want to undergo an MRI or ultrasound to check for leaks, tears or ruptures. Patients with silicone implants should undergo regular screening as recommended by the FDA, while those with saline implants do not need to take this step. During your consultation, our team can assess your needs and help determine if this procedure is right for you.

- BotoxThe Botox brow lift is an increasingly popular procedure that creates more defined brows and a more awake-looking eye area with only a few strategically placed injections. By relaxing the muscles that pull the brows down, the muscle that pulls upward has no resistance. This causes the brows to lift for as long as the neurotoxin remains active, usually around three and four months. The result is subtle but impactful.
- Brow LiftThe passage of time affects our facial appearance and some sagging, droop or heaviness commonly occurs in the brow region and upper eyelids. In addition, individuals who have a relatively low brow position naturally, even at a young age, may be unhappy with an appearance that says they are tired, angry or sad. In these cases, a forehead or brow lift can produce a positive and pleasant change.
- Eyelid SurgeryEyelid surgery is performed on an outpatient basis (requiring no overnight stay) in our fully accredited onsite surgery center. The procedure begins with the administration of anesthesia. You can opt for either local anesthesia with sedation or a light general anesthesia, in which you are completely asleep during the procedure.
- LiposuctionA butt lift is designed to accentuate lackluster curvature by excising excess skin and fat. Patients who may benefit from this procedure have a deflated or saggy backside, potentially resulting from pregnancy or losing a lot of weight. A butt lift is not to be confused with a Brazilian butt lift, which is a different procedure in which fat is taken from another area of the body via liposuction and transferred into the subcutaneous layer of the buttock.
- Breast AugmentationBreast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed worldwide. But with time, even the best augmentation mammoplasty may be affected by issues that require further surgery. Our team’s extensive experience with breast procedures has made us highly sought after to correct problems that have occurred with previous surgeries. Revisions may also be requested to improve the size, appearance or feel of the breast implants.
- Breast ReductionBreast reduction surgery (also called reduction mammoplasty) is a procedure designed to reduce the breast size and weight. For breasts that are wider, longer and larger than ideal, breast reduction surgery will reduce these variables. The procedure removes breast glands, skin and fat, and can reduce areolar diameter. The breast will be lighter, smaller, firmer and more in proportion to the rest of the body.
- Breast LiftBreast lift, or mastopexy, can reverse signs of aging in the breast tissue and restore a perkier bust. Using several different surgical techniques, a plastic surgeon can raise and reshape sagging breasts and reduce the size of the areolas. A successful breast lift gives you improved proportions, a more youthful profile and the confidence to match.
- RhinoplastyRhinoplasty (commonly referred to as a “nose job”) is designed to address the specific challenges that people face regarding the structure of their nose. Whether it’s a protruding bump on the bridge or a prominent projection of the nasal tip, rhinoplasty performed by a skilled surgeon can provide a patient with bolstered confidence and a balanced facial aesthetic.

- Thigh LiftAn outer thigh lift often involves a larger incision and more extensive scarring. The incision starts near the groin and wraps up and around the patient’s hip. The incisions are strategically placed to be hidden under most clothing and swimsuits, but they may be more visible than the scars of an inner thigh lift. However, more extensive incisions generally mean more ability to correct and more dramatic results, and many patients find this is a trade they are happy to make.
- Face LiftThe Full Focus Facelift, the standard approach at our practice, was developed specifically to improve the quality of your results by placing additional effort into your skincare routine before and after your facelift surgery. In addition to the surgery, you are given an entire battery of skincare products and routines that drastically include the quality of your results.

Our surgeons are friendly and compassionate, so don’t hesitate to ask them any questions. We want to ensure your neck lift journey is a pleasant one.
- BlepharoplastyBlepharoplasty, commonly known as an eyelid lift, restores a more youthful appearance to the eye area by tightening the skin on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. This is a corrective procedure that addresses both cosmetic concerns (hooding, drooping, heavy bags) and functional concerns (skin irritation, headaches, reduced field of view). The sole focus of blepharoplasty is the eyelids.
- AbdominoplastyNot every stomach is created equally, and every tummy tuck surgery requires a unique approach. In addition to making micro-adjustments to your abdominoplasty depending on your anatomy, there are three typical tummy tuck options that are available based on your needs: a standard, extended or mini tummy tuck.
- Nose SurgeryThe nose holds a prominent position on the face and has tremendous emotional significance to each individual. A nose that is considered too large, too small or too crooked, or that deviates in some way from a normal range, can make a person feel self-conscious, insecure and anxious in social situations. For these reasons, nose surgery is one of the most common cosmetic procedures done in the nation and here at Edina Plastic Surgery.

- OtoplastyOtoplasty is often used in the correction of congenital prominent ears, an inherited trait that causes the ears to stick out farther from the head than usual. It can also reshape the ears for improved symmetry and address other defects or abnormalities. For many children, the appearance of large or protruding ears becomes the focus of teasing and can have a lasting impact on their self-esteem. While prominent ears are usually apparent from birth, the problem can persist through adulthood. However, otoplasty can be performed on children as young as 5 or 6 years old, when the ears are approaching their adult size and kindergarten is just around the corner. At this age, the operation is typically done under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, so no overnight stay is required. In older individuals, and for revision otoplasty surgeries, a local anesthetic is adequate.
- Body ContouringPeople who have chronic medical conditions or are in generally poor health are typically not good candidates for body contouring procedures. People who cannot take sufficient time off to recover may also be advised not to undergo butt lift surgery. The location of the incisions can make it difficult to sit or rest in typical positions, making it essential to set aside time to heal in comfort. Your surgeon will take a variety of factors into consideration when determining whether you should undergo this procedure.

- GynecomastiaGynecomastia or male breast enlargement is a very common condition. It occurs in up to 60 percent of adolescent boys and young men. It may also develop later in life. In most cases, there is no apparent cause for the development of the male breast tissue, although it can occur as a side effect of some medications, significant weight gain or from some medical conditions.

- Skin CareYour neck is a part of your body that is among the most prone to show signs of age. Various factors influence this: your genetics, lifestyle, the sun and gravity are several factors that can ultimately impact the way your neck appears over time. Additionally, a lot of skin care in the past, has focused on the face. Many people may have ignored the skin on their neck and decolletage for decades, resulting in aging of this area relative to the face, which can become quite noticeable.
