The Miami Beach Parking Department handles street and lot parking throughout the city. The parking department strives to reduce traffic congestion on city streets. The department manages more than 11,500 on-street parking spaces, approximately six parking garages and nearly 65 surface parking lots. It is organized into three divisions, administration, on-street and off-street. The administrative division has total responsibility of the financial and operational needs of the department. In addition, this division also administers the city's residential permit parking program and special use permits. The on-street division coordinates the activities associated with traffic engineering, on-street metered parking and parking enforcement programs. This division supervises all regulatory functions. The off-street division manages the city's parking facilities and special events and the administration of contracted services for security, cashiers, facility maintenance and custodial services.
