- Alejandra Alvarez, M.D., specializes and is Board Certified in family medicine. As an undergraduate at Florida International University, she received a Bachelor of Science and graduated from the Honors College, magna cum laude. She earned her medical degree from Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida. As a medical student she was honored with the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award in 2014 for demonstrating both clinical excellence and outstanding compassion in the delivery of care; Outstanding Community Service Award in 2012 for dedication to service in the community. Dr. Alvarez completed post-graduate training with the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Sugar Land, Texas, July 2014 to June 2017. As a graduating medical resident, Dr. Alvarez was honored with the John M. Passmore Jr., MD Resident Teaching Excellence Award 2017 in recognition of outstanding commitment to teaching and mentoring fellow residents and medical students. Dr. Alvarez’s leadership achievements have included several positions such as Regional Coordinator of the American Medical Women’s Association as a student representative to the national board on behalf of the AMWA chapters of the Southeast region of the U.S. and as Vice President and Co-President of the American Medical Women’s Association FIU Chapter, organizing community and university events for the promotion of women in medicine, women’s health, and family health. She enjoys cooking for family and friends, dance classes and travel. Dr. Alvarez has been recognized through the NCQA’s Diabetes Recognition Program (DRP). Clinicians who achieve DRP Recognition show their peers, patients and others in the Diabetes community that they are part of an elite group that is publicly recognized for its skill in providing the highest-level diabetes care.
