The Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission is the controlling body of the Causeway, which includes the bridge system and the Causeway approach road system on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The commission is responsible for its maintenance and construction and enforcement of safety laws. Additionally, it operates a vessel traffic service on Lake Pontchartrain. The Greater New Orleans Expressway Commission has a police department that provides law enforcement and motorist aid on the Causeway. The police vehicles are equipped with mobile video recording equipment for the safety of the motoring public and officers and to aid in the prosecution of criminal offenses.
