I hired a crew of 4 to move a 2 bd/2 ba apartment. It was scheduled for 10am. They arrived at 8:30 with no warning. My wife reviewed the estimate and handed each mover a pre-loading tip to encourage a quick move. I arrived about 10am to find less than half of my stuff loaded. Two movers were young and clearly inexperienced. During loading, at least one person was always on a break and there were several complaints about items being too heavy. They disagreed about how to carry and pack several items. One of them stated jovially these young guys are moving slow. Concerned, I called the company to prepare them for an inevitable complaint if the move took much longer. They told me they would have dispatch hurry them up. When they finally closed the truck door, almost 5 hours had passed and there were still multiple items in the apartment. When they were late arriving at the new place I called the company again to formally complain. When they finally arrived, the driver hands me his phone with the manager on the phone. I thought he was calling for customer service but he was only calling to verify payment. He was dismissive and became increasingly rude. I told him I would be filing a complaint and I wanted my belongings unloaded as soon as possible. At almost 2:00, he set the end time of 2:30. I reminded the movers about the tip. The experienced mover criticized the younger guys for their speed, strategy and ability. At 2:30pm there were a few items still on the truck. The driver announced the time and stopped working. The others brought in the remaining items but left them in the floor. We noted on the contract that the bed and crib were not reassembled so we could not confirm any damage. After an unnecessarily long debate, the driver signed and they left. Later we found multiple damaged items including damage to the walls in the house, which will likely cost me my security deposit. The customer service experience was horrible. I may not have been as angry with this move had the manager shown the least bit of concern about the customer experience. When we are paying for a service during an already stressful event like moving, a simple caring interaction with the company can go a long way. In addition, it would be helpful for a consumer to know that the staff they are hiring is young and inexperienced. If I had known that then I would have been prepared for the timing of the move.
