continued from prior post:

I asked where their ethics were but she had no answer. I was trying to do the right thing by controlling the pet population and protect my dog from any chance of testicular cancer and apparently I picked the WRONG vet hospital to do so. They are clearly not about the animals and their well being their are all about THE ALL MIGHTY DOLLAR!!! Im sure that by now you get the idea that I am pissed and your damn right, I have run an animal rescue farm in Queen Creek for the past 11 years we have over 100 animals and dealt with several farm vets and of course Brown Road Animal Hospital and have never been treated me like this or ripped me off so badly and I feel with the social media today that my voice should be heard and if I can save anyone from going thru what I experienced then I should say so. Please if you value your pet and your money don't go to Alta Mesa because they have their priorities screwed up and you will get ripped off.

I took my newly rescued dog to them to get neutered. I only used them because they were the only vet that was a member of AZ Trade Exchange so it wasn't going to cost me a lot out of pocket. Huge mistake, I'm not sure if it was due to the fact that it was going to be on a trade or if this was just normal practice for them to overcharge for every procedure. I had my first visit to just have an exam and blood work prior to surgery which they said was required. (Note: Never had to do this with any of my 6 prior dogs or 3 cats) at the end of my appointment I was presented with a receipt for over $500.00 in charges. After going thru the receipt with the nurse and taking everything off except for what I came for the exam and blood work I was still charged for a test that I clearly said I did not want. I had to call and have those charges removed. At this point I should have know better than to go back due to the fact that I was super uncomfortable about the money issue but the following neuter appointment was already set and I figured that I would just follow thru but I would not be taking him back in the future. The morning came to have the procedure and I took him in to drop him off and the nurse went over the bill with me (which by the way was well over $500.00 again) and I questioned why a laperscopic neuter was $85.00 but to remove the 2 back dew claws was $165.00 when my last vet didn't even charge me for them because the dog was already under and it was literally a 5 min procedure and he did not feel right about charging for that. (By the way Brown Road Animal Clinic IS THE BEST!!!!) The nurse said she had no idea but the billing lady could call me to discuss this when she got in. Note: the vet that did the initial exam said it would be no problem to do that while in surgery, (Her words): "Sure we can do that no problem it literally is just a snip and just takes a second its just a flap of skin" A flap of skin that I was being charged $165.00 for. So billing nurse calls me prior to surgery to discuss my concerns about the excessive charge and she completely defends the erroneous charges saying its a risky procedure and therefor justified the expense. So I opted to not have it done at that point and I explained that I felt that they were to excessive with their billing and I explained my experiences with my Brown Road Animal Hospital. I explained that I had been with them for over 22 years and they would never do this and that after his procedure they will lose me as a customer and get this her response was "you can come pick up your dog we will not be doing his surgery" and I clearly said just because I opted to not have his dew claws done and she said "no because you just said you wont be back". I asked so just because I wont be back and you wont be getting any more money from me your refusing to neuter my dog today and she said " the doctor is not comfortable doing surgery on your dog if your not comfortable with our hospital" I re-explained that I was not having an issue with the vet only the excessive charging and she continued to support her reasons for the charges and the fact that they would not neuter my dog. I asked her if she thought that Petco, Petsmart or any other animal facility would do the same if someone brought their animal in to be spayed or neutered and were to never return that they would be refused. No better vet in valley

I have taken pets to Alta Mesa Animal Hospital since I was in high school (long time ago), and am still taking them in. I now have 3 cats, 1 is very hard to deal with at the vets, they are so helpful and understanding of the situation that Mandi would rather not be there. Everytime I take one of them for one thing or another, everyone from the tech, Dr., to the receptionist is so friendly and kind. Even though I have seen many Vets come and go from there, the ones the chose are always wonderful.. thanks!!

Compassion

My cat has been diagnosed with CRF, and the Dr.'s and staff at Alta Mesa made me feel like my Maddie was the only one that has ever gone through this. That was so important to me since this is the first time I have ever dealt with a terminal illness in one of my own. Thank you so much for caring, and being so compassionate!

Very poor service.

Would not examine my pet without putting him under sedation and would not do it without scheduling another appointment. Doctor said he was "unable to examine" my cat because he was "too resistant to restraint". That is ridiculous as my pet has been successfully examined by other vets. Any decent veterinary clinic is capable of using an assistant to hold down an animal for an examination, if necessary. I don't know what this doctor's problem is, but he has not been helpful at all in treating my pet and has not returned my phone calls for advice on how to proceed in caring for my obviously ill pet.
