• Chiropractic Adjustments
  The chiropractic adjustment is a quick thrust applied to a vertebra for the purpose of correcting its position, movement or both. Adjustments are often accompanied by an audible release of gas that sounds like a 'crack.' The sound sometimes shocks people a little bit the first couple times they get adjusted, but the sensation is usually relieving. Occasionally, minor discomfort is experienced, especially if the surrounding muscles are in spasm or the patient tenses up during the chiropractic procedure. There are times when the audible 'cracking' does not occur. This is often due to either significant muscle tightness or that the patient may be having a hard time relaxing during their adjustments.
• Spinal Adjustments
  Your chiropractor will not only detect and minimize VSC, but, once the spinal bones are back in their normal position and have regained their natural function, he or she will try to prevent the problem from recurring. Chiropractic treatments, particularly spinal adjustments, can be used to treat VSC and ward off its associated symptoms.
• Subluxation
  What truly differentiates doctors of chiropractic from any other healthcare professionals is the fact that chiropractors are the only professionals who are trained to diagnose and treat what are called spinal subluxations. The word 'subluxation' comes from the Latin words meaning 'to dislocate' (luxare) and 'somewhat or slightly' (sub). So the term 'vertebral subluxation' literally means a slight dislocation (misalignment) of the bones in the spine. Although this term was adequate in the 1800s when much was still misunderstood about the human body, today the word 'subluxation' has changed in meaning to capture the complex of neurological, structural, and functional changes that occur when a bone is 'out of place.' For this reason chiropractors usually refer to subluxations of the spine as the "Vertebral Subluxation Complex", or "VSC" for short.

  Our chiropractors treat headache, spine problems, back pain, neck pain, and other injuries using chiropractic methods of spinal manipulation and adjustments and other non-invasive treatments. Additionally, our office provides school physicals and we work closely with the junior high and high school athletic programs here in Merritt Island, helping keep young athletes healthy and injury free. Our chiropractors have advanced certifications in the treatment of whiplash injuries, which are a frequent result of auto injuries.

  The range of treatments used may include cervical or lumbar spinal decompression and massage therapy and all the most up to date non-invasive methods of treatment.   Dr. Marsha Smirnov is a Florida licensed Chiropractor. She graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, MN in 2002. Toward the end of chiropractic college, she became interested in how chiropractic can positively affect us in the early stages of life. This led her to pursue a certification in Chiropractic Pediatrics and The Webster Technique. She is currently an active member of the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association. Over her years in practice she has had the opportunity to work alongside seasoned chiropractors and learn a variety of techniques and approaches to chiropractic care. Dr. Marsha has had the privilege to treat patients of all ages, starting at 4 hours old, to 94 years old. It is her purpose in life to be able to share her knowledge and skills in hopes of helping those individuals seeking to improve their health and overall well-being. Today, she calls Cocoa Beach her home, along with her husband, 3 children, and 3 rescued dogs. Outside of doing what she loves, she enjoys art in all forms and is dedicated to life-long learning.

  Our Merritt Island chiropractic staff helps people who are suffering from a variety of pain-causing conditions. It is our mission to help patients eliminate pain and get back to their normal lives again! We treat patients with back pain, sciatica, numbness or tingling in the limbs, headache pain, and all types of spinal injuries. Additionally, we frequently help auto injury victims and those suffering from personal injuries to heal and return to full functionality. Some injuries that we treat are chronic, as in the case of recurring headaches, while others are sudden onset injuries, as in the case of a personal injury or an auto injury.
