Upon first appearance and visit the nest seemed like a wonderful space. the classrooms are open and large, New, and have descent ratios. The owner was very nice when first meeting her. I had an interview for employment while also being a parent looking to enroll my own child too. I was offered the position immediately and my son was accepted before I even brought him in. Once coming into the center with my son [toddler age] for an hour I got to see a better glimpse of the center. With the acception of one toddler teacher who was interacting with the kids, the rest of the teachers I witnessed were not interacting with kids or even watching the kids outside as a group. There were no toys for the kids outside besides two play structures and tires and I watched many kids get bored as well as putting things in their mouths such as rocks and acorns that the teachers were not even noticing. One child was even grabbing other kids and pushing other children including my child and not a single teacher noticed or said anything. There was a lack of learning appropriate toys in the classroom, and not much safety features to classrooms doors or stairs. Teachers also said how young children often would begin to meltdown an hour before lunch and nap and that this was just normal. However, with the teaching experience i have this is a major red flag that a routine is not working and should be adjusted.. When emailing the owner after my visit even though she said she would be there for my visit but was not, she responded defensively and retracted her offer to me saying it was clear there were different interests claiming safety is their top priority. It is clear the owner does not take criticism well and disregarded my concerns as a parent not addressing anything I mentioned. I would warn a parent or employee to spend time in the classroom and with teachers before making a choice to be a part of this company.
