My husband went to the SPCA in Merriam, KS last Wednesday to pick a dog to adopt n they said the one he liked wasn’t ready for adoption because they had not done an evaluation yet. I called to inquire about the puppy the next morning n they said because we don't already have a dog they won't allow us to buy him. They want to sell him to people with a dog because the puppy is under socialized n another dog could teach the puppy to behave like a dog... Apparently a 6 month old puppy will NEVER learn how to be a dog on its own along with us training him. I wonder what Darwin would’ve said about that... Sounds like an excuse, maybe one of them or someone they know wants the puppy. We do not have children in our home, we have one cat, I am home full time, the puppy would have tons of attention, training n love. I can see how he would not learn in an environment like that. We’re both dumbfounded, disappointed n angry. My husband went to Prairie Paws in Ottawa on Thursday and came home that evening with a dog. They were friendly n helpful unlike the folks at the SPCA. :( Mayhap there is such overcrowding in shelters because of things like this. Pray for all animals denied a good loving home.

I love this place! Everyone who works here is very knowledge and very accommodating. I like how they are able to answers all of my questions and don't have to look it up or ask someone else. My peers have received great care here over the years. I also adopted my cat from here four years ago and he's a doll!
