  it has been said that puerh appreciation separates the true tea connoisseurs from the mere dilettantes. if we have to assign a point where this parting of the ways takes place, it is probably around the release of this tea. on the one hand are the poor mislead folks who have been drinking a vague infusion of leaves smelling like a moldy basement, and on the other the discerning people who appreciate the way of tea and the depth of expertise it takes to capture the essence of nature's flavor.

  it is the type of shou (finished) cake many residents of yunnan, the home province of pu erh, turn to as their everyday beverage. the leaves are large and hearty. the robust flavor is slightly sweet with a bit of earth that remains in the background. it has a dark brown brew and can develop a slightly bitter edge when oversteeped. the cake is ready to drink now and doesn't require further aging. $25 per 375-gram cake.8" round weight - 13.5oz.

  green puerhs are produced by harvesting the large leaf varietal (da ye) from china's southern province of yunnan. after being cooked thoroughly by pan-firing, no further oxidization occurs. the leaves are then sun-dried, steamed and pressed into a round disc called "beeng cha" or "bing cha". this high standard puerh is our very first organic puerh offering, made entirely from our own blend of high grown spring harvest leaf. the unique fruitiness and well rounded mouth-feel is accompanied by a gentle wisp of smokiness and that signature yunnan sweetness in the finish. delicious now, the amount of natural tannin in this tea also ensures its suitability for long term aging.
